Zilxi before and after photos

The FDA recently approved a new topical treatment for the papules and pustules of rosacea. This topical treatment contains 1.5% minocycline in a foam emulsion.

The main claim to fame of a topical antibiotic is that it can deliver a higher dose of the active ingredient to the layers of skin, than taking a tablet. In fact to mimic the same active molecule concentration as seen by the users of Zilxi’s sister acne treatment Amzeeq, a far higher than normal oral dosage would be required.

What is Zilxi?

Zilxi is a recently FDA approved 1.5% Topical Minocycline Foam for the treatment of the papules and pustules of rosacea.

How do we know Zilxi works?

An investor presentation dated March 2020, from the makers of Zilxi, Menlo Therapeutics touts that efficacy of their topical minocycline therapy, posting before and after photographs of trial participants.

The clinical trials were able to show that compared to the inert vehicle foam, Zilxi was able to more significantly reduce the absolute number of papules and pustules. Note that vehicle itself was able to offer a benefit to trial participants.

Also around 40% of trial participants at the end of the trial were were clear or almost clear of the redness associated with rosacea.

The presentation highlighted that less than 1% of trial participants experienced an adverse event from the treatment.

Looks promising. I wonder how its efficacy compares to Finacea/Soolantra?

  2. barbarelli says:

I found finacea too harsh for my skin but soolantra worked very well add miravosa too along with antibiotics I have had laser treatment for the redness and was recommended four sessions by a dermatologist after one session i saw a difference and after the four my skin is clear and has been for 7 months so far not painful feels like slight stinging and have to keep out of sunlight . expensive though as have to go privately but for me it was worth it .

The only thing that worked for me was the drastic reduction & eventual cessation of the use of lupus meds. The resultant scarring was greatly reduced by the use of Lacura eye gel. Strange I know but true!!

I don’t know what country you are from but Is the eye gel called “Lacura Eye Moisture Boost Eye Cream” from Aldi stores??

“Ivermectin 1% take a lot more redness away than gentamicin or docy or metroniazole gel.
    Thank you

Same here. When I started soolantra it was a dream come true after a week of use, then after about 6 months of continuous use I started to notice the bumps coming back but not at full strength. The bumps would be like 6-12 at a time scattered around cheeks, forehead and nose. It’s been about 2 years total of continuous use of soolantra and I can never get a full clear face like I did at the beginning phase. So I’m hoping my dermatologist can prescribe ZILXI for me at no cost like the soolantra medication.

Going Keto is what worked for me / good luck all

  8. I was prescribed doxycycline and it gave me hyperpigmentation around my mouth and it helped my acne a bit. But after I stopped taking it, I got fungal acne. Now, I just use dandruff shampoo and vaseline. It has helped me immensely. Vaseline has calmed my skin down and helped to even my skin out a bit. Dandruff shampoo is helping with the bumps on the forehead and chin. Can Zilxi help me in my case?

I have acne rosacea and am looking for a good sunscreen that won’t irritate or make me break out. Any suggestions?

    • Elizabeth Howell says:

Elta MD sunscreen works for my severe rosacea. I like the tinted cream. I also use Zilxi, Soolantra, Fabior, Rhofade, and oral doxycycline.
