Some news today promoting a product claimed to reduce the appearance of under eye puffiness. Tarte Dark Circle Defense claims the inclusion of a Helix Biomedix designed peptide sequence known as Tetrapeptide-14 is responsible for the anti-inflammatory actions of the concealer.
Cosmetics that are suitable for rosacea sufferers are hard to come by.
This product looks interesting for its potential to reduce swelling. Also the related anti-redness product is worth keeping an eye on.
Don’t be too persuaded by the promise of something as exotic sounding as “Tetrapeptide-14” though. It is a long way from a laboratory peptide to something that rosacea sufferers rave about.
That being said, here is some of the information that is currently available about products based on this peptide.

Alleviating Redness with Tetrapeptide-14

Grant Industries Inc. has launched a product that can be used to alleviate skin redness. Granactive AR-1423 (INCI: Water (aqua) (and) Butylene Glycol (and) Camellia sinensis (Tea) Extract (and) Aspalathus linearis (Rooibus) Extract (and) Boswellia serrata Extract (and) Honey Extract (and) Tetrapeptide-14 (and) Phenoxyethanol (and) Sodium Benzoate) can be used in cosmetic treatments to alleviate the redness associated with red (rosacea-like) skin types or after mild sun exposure.
According to the company, this ingredient combines a redness diminishing peptide with the antioxidant properties of tea, the calming properties of Boswellia serrata, and the soothing quality of honey. Tetrapeptide-14, a specific peptide sequence designed by the company’s supply partner Helix Biomedix, acts by down regulating interleukin-6 (IL-6) to prevent inflammation, which in turn reduces MMP-1 damage with the net effect of a bright and even skin appearance.
The ingredient was screened in a leave-on cosmetic treatment at 5% on several subjects with excessive facial redness and, when used with tetrapeptide-14 and botanicals, reportedly diminished the redness by 50% in 4 weeks.
