I don’t think I have ever linked to an article in Cosmopolitan before, but hey there is always a first. A designer called Moto Guo sent his models down the runway for Men’s Fashion Week in Milan with visible acne and rosacea. Their facial lesions are clearly visible, forming part of the show.
I think the models are still a bit too young and funky, and their skin lesions look a bit too hipster to reflect what we know rosacea can look like. If they had unsightly and swollen red noses and were truly glowing red then maybe we could say that rosacea is making its mark on the runway.
Designer sends models with acne down the catwalk, to make an important point
Men’s fashion week is in full swing, and Malaysian fashion designer, Moto Guo, has certainly got people talking – albeit, not really about the clothes…
Instead of sending the typical, fresh-faced, flawless models down the runway, the designer decided to make a powerful statement, by emphasising his model’s natural skin issues, including acne and rosacea. His aim was to impart the message that spots, acne and redness are the reality, and that it’s more than OK to leave them exposed rather than covering with makeup.
…
The move has prompted mixed reactions, with some people saying that it’s ‘refreshing to see pimples being embraced’, that it makes a change from the dewy-faced perfection we’re usually overloaded with every fashion month. Whilst others have stated that declaring acne as ‘in’, ‘is making light of an often sensitive issue’.
The reality is, spots are normal and happen to all of us, so why be ashamed?
