lindasy.com is closing down

Just in case anyone has missed the email over at rosacea-support; Linda Sy has been in contact to say that she is retiring and thus her web site and business is closing. Anyone who wants to stock up on their favourite products will need to order some now as they will no longer be available after the end of October, or as long as stock lasts.

This is the end of a great relationship between rosacea-support and Dr. Sy. It was through her involvement with rosacea sufferers and her expertise in formulating products that she was able to create ZincO Cream, Vita-Oil and her Mild Oatmeal facial cleanser.

I, for one, will really miss the tinted ZincO cream. I still use this every day, and have done for several years.

Thanks for all you have done for us rosacea sufferers Dr Sy. We wish you all the best for your retirement.

[update:] Some of Linda Sy’s most popular products are available from RosaceaCare, see http://rosaceacare.com/orders/order.html#prod for more information.

  1. Linda says:

Amazon.com is listing Linda Sy products; however it states: “Currently unavailable. We don’t know when or if this item will be back in stock.”

Does anyone know if Amazon previously sold Linda Sy items or do you think they are HOPEFULLY getting ready to sell them?

For what it’s worth I went ahead and left a nice customer review for “Flesh-tinted ZincO Cream, SPF 20 – 3 oz.”

  2. As far as I know Amazon.com was never an official outlet for her products.

It is interesting to continue to hear from users of her products that are just surfacing to re-supply and discovering that her site is offline. There are a lot of happy Linda Sy customers out there !

  3. L says:

Hi – Has anyone tried Avene products?

    http://www.aveneusa.com/

I got a tester of their sunscreen, doesn’t have as high a concentration of zinc as ZincO, but it also doesn’t seem to provoke any instant irritation the way other barrier sunscreens do either… I’ll give it a few days and report back in, they seem to have a whole line of products geared to rosaceans…

And I’m still wondering if anyone has tried the Rosacea Care line? Any good?

  4. Bob says:

I just went to oder from lindasy and I’m in a panic that she is out of business.

I usually order a six month supply of her bar soap for normal skin, oil for face and body, and recreational sunscreen. Using her products you would never know I have rosacea.

Now what am I going to do, I don’t know.

Does anyone know if she is going to come back? Or know of any alternatives to the products I used from lindasy?

These were really compatibale with my skin and I’ve tried nearly everything.

  5. Rebekah says:

    Hi Brian,

Wondering about the status of the Avenue Road Zinco Cream replacement. Any news?

    Many thanks,

    Rebekah

  6. Linda says:

I went to the Linda Sy website and clicked on dispensing locations. On the list there was a dermatologist’s office in my town. Fortunately they had four tubes left of the tinted Zinco.
So if you are in need of Linda Sy products, check with the dispensing locations and maybe you’ll be lucky too!

  7. Rebecca says:

Has anyone tried a product called Quintessence Sunshade? It’s a Tinted Zinc Oxide Sunscreen SPF 30. It comes in 4 different tints and untinted.

I was wondering how it compares to Zinco.

  8. Bob says:

    Linda,

Does your dispensing location have bar soap for normal skin?

  9. L says:

Hi Linda – did you purchase all 4 of those tubes? Would you be interested in selling one?

  10. Bob says:

I just ordered la rocha tolerine gentle bar soap. I also ordered a sample of vanicream bar soap. I’m hoping one of them will work as a replacement for my lindasy bar soap for normal skin. I’ll keep you guys posted.

Also, I’m trying lysine, 1000 mg each day at bedtime. I’ve heard on some rosacea forums that it was helpful. I’ll let you know if that does any good; I’m going to give it a month test.

Any word on whether this other company is going to distribute any of lindasy’s products?

Has anyone called her directly to see if they can purchase her company?

I would be willing to try and get her personal number if this would interest someone and they had the funds to pursue.

It seems like a no brainer business and I don’t understand why she would quit. It seems it would pretty much run on autopilot with her dedicated customer base.

  11. L says:

Bob – funny you would mention the Lysine, I also just started on it a couple of days ago – but I am going with a more agressive 3000 mg daily.

I’ll report back in as well – also, I’m having no reactions (2 days) with a self blended combination of Avene 50 spf and Toleriane Sand beige corrective fluid foundation. Only problem is, it goes on very thickly and getting it off at the end of the day might be a problem for those who can’t tolerate any rubbing on your skin. I am using Cetaphil on a baby facecloth with lukewarm water.

Even if Linda Sy went out of business, if we could just find out who her manufacturer was perhaps we could appeal to them directly to make a last run of the most popular products.

  12. Beth Lee says:

    Hi Bob,
The Avene 50 is that a zinc based product?

As for the Cetaphil it makes my skin flake. I am trying a new facial cleanser and will report on it to all if I have no reaction.

One other thing that you may not believe. I read recently that if you use Milk of Magnesia and rub it gently on your face (like a lotion) and rinse it off that it would help with flaking and redness. I tried it on one side of my face and I have to say it really works. Now I use it every night. After I wash my face and while it is still wet I rub just a little Milk of Magnesia (pour it right from the bottle in my hand) all over my face and rinse. Then I moisturize as usual. I think it really helps!

  13. Bob says:

“It is my plan to make Linda Sy products available again through another company. When that happens, you are on our list of those who will be notified.” [Linda Sy quote above]

I hope she means make available ALL of her products not just zinco and oatmeal cleanser, as great as those have been for some people. Both of these products aggravated my skin. I’m sure it’s like this for a lot of people with rosacea, it can be hit or miss, as everyone’s biology is different.

I think it’s kinda of wrong if she doesn’t bring our “medicine” back.

We have a disease, and it’s just as valid as anything else. Linda Sy are you listening ?? !!!

  14. Bob says:

Bob has tried la rocha tolerine gentle bar soap.

It didn’t work at all–be warned rosaceans.

I’m still waiting on my vanicream sample but I don’t have much faith left.

Maybe I’ll just use water and stink like rotten cheese but maybe my face won’t be red.

  15. steve says:

I was able to do a lot of searching and by trial and error found a product (used the sample first) from Toronto.
    I LOVE it.
It is the same or even better that tinted Zinc-O.

When you breakdown the ingredients, you have to look for a high micornized zinc oxide (over 8%)
Titanium oxide (over 6%) this is usually the end with most high end TINTED moisturizers.

The other ingredients are what we call “fillers” or “binders” in pharmacology and can vary.

I have ordered 4x tubes as I love this new product from a skin specialist in Toronto at $60.00CAD a tube. (3 oz)
Compound pharmacists are great but expensive as you can see

RE: The above post by Brian………….does anyone know what this product is called please ?

  16. L says:

Hi Beth Lee – yes the Avene is zinc based about 6 % and slightly tinted, a little pinkish for me, but blending it with the Toleriane corrective fluid makes it the right colour. Unfortunately it also has titanium dioxide though, so if that’s a trigger for you, beware – but so far no flares and I’ve been using it for a week… Also, seem to be having reasonable results with the Dermaglow Intensive moisturizer.

  17. Digital Davo – re your post dated 31 January regarding more people emerging trying to purchase the Linda Sy products. I was wondering if you could pass this info on to whoever is looking at maybe bringing the products back. Maybe just let them know that the poll is just a small sample & many more people out there will possibly continue to emerge when they run out of their stash.

    Just a thought.

  18. Bob says:

Will chemist’s in your country make soap? Or do you know of a company who will make a custom made soap?

  19. L says:

Has anyone tried this: http://www.mexitancanada.com This is their main ingredient:

“Mexitan SPF 50 contains 22.5% zinc oxide and 6% titanium dioxide. As with all sunscreen lotions, re-apply frequently and after swimming, perspiring, or towel-drying. The titanium dioxide and zinc oxide used in Mexitan is micronized. This allows our sunscreen lotions to be more cosmetically appealing, compared to coarser particles. The protection is less visible, yet remains on the skin’s surface.”

  20. Bob says:

I tried vanicream bar soap recently and vanicream shave cream.

The shave cream worked great for me. The bar soap worked good; not as good as lindasy but it will be adaquate, I think, until hopefully she comes back online with ALL her products.

My plan is to shave with the shave cream every third day, wash my body only with the bar soap, and wash my face with a wet cotton ball with purified water. This should do minimal irritation to my face. (crossing my fingers)

For those of you interested you can get vanicream products at:

    http://www.psico.com/

At this website I ordered samples of vanicream bar soap, vanicream shave cream, and sport sunblock. (As of yet, I haven’t tried the sunblock; I’ll report back).

THE SAMPLES WERE FREE–THEY EVEN PAID SHIPPING–SO WHAT CAN IT HURT–YOU MAY AS WELL GIVE THEM A SHOT IF YOU THINK THEY MIGHT BE A LINDASY REPLACEMENT FOR U!!! Good luck!

  21. brian says:

Finally, a better replacement for Zinc-O!
I purchased 4 tubes and love this formula.

As it has a moisturizer in it, I have found no need for oil during this dry winter.

I love it and it covers redness it both hot and cold and looks natural…looks like I have great skin once again!

THANK YOU!!! After searching for a replacement, I have it!

    btw, I found the site to order at;

    http://sites.google.com/site/avenueskinforrosaceans/spf-protective-products-tinted-and-non-tinted

  22. Beth Lee says:

I just went to this web site got the phone number and called Susan Shirriff. She is so nice and really wants to help! I feel really encouraged that she will work to replace the products we need.

  23. David C says:

Bth/Brian – Went to the website & had a look – one of the ingredients is retinol – that’s what gave me Rosacea in the first place. This is an odd ingredient for rosacea sufferers?

Digital Davo – what’s your thoughts on this?

  24. Hi David, I think retinol can be an ok ingredient in small concentration. It is found in some preparations for rosacea sufferers. It would be worth exercising care though. Lathering on a retinol cream is probably not a good idea for many rosacea sufferers though.

  25. David C says:

Digital Davo – I have to agree. Please be careful anyone who tries this cream – like I said earlier Retinol gave me this problem in the first place.

Still hoping Dr Sy’s products will become available again. If not I will be going to a compounding Chemist. I haven’t given up hope yet.

  26. Rosacea Care have made an announcement via this blog ;

    See
ZincO, Vita-Oil and Oatmeal Cleanser available again soon

    davidp.

  27. Lee says:

man they gotta do the MOISTURIZING OIL FOR FACE AND BODY too!!! Please !!!!

  28. Rachael M says:

FABULOUS. This news absolutely makes my whole year!!!!! To be able to have the oatmeal cleanser again is as close to heaven as we can get, without actually being there! Thanks to everybody involved in making this happen!!!!

  29. brian says:

Small amounts of retinol used is designed to vigorously treat photodamaged rosacean skin. It is appropriate for maximal retinol therapy and is particularly helpful for those wishing to thicken/plump skin without redness and reduce inflammation.

  30. David C says:

Digital Davo – do you know what the shelf life of the Zinco is? I found half a tube that I must have forgotten was there but it is at least 18 mths old.

    many thanks

    David.

  31. David Pascoe says:

Not sure what the official shelf life is, but I have had quite old tubes that were runny. If I mixed a fair bit up in my hand it would get a reasonable consistency again. I did ask Linda once whether keeping it in the fridge would extend it’s life and she said that a cool cupboard was better than the cold of a fridge.

  32. brian says:

There is no shelf-life per say but you will find that after 6-9 months the binder that holds the tit ox and zinc ox will separate.
You end up with a wet color and a white paste.
Just open tube and put in jar and mix yourself.
Paraban free UV sunscreens have no real shelf-life.
This is a ploy to buy more as most people only use sun protection on holidays.

One more note: Why would one member here even think of micro derma with rosacean skin??? What kind of doc would even allow that to be done on you?
You have thinned your skin and are even more prone to redness.

IPL works! Micro derma is NOT for Rosaceans!

BTW, my co-worker analyzed ZincO weeks ago and there was 1.3% green retional in the tinted version.
I used it on my eyelids and around my mouth for years and no problem.

I am happy now with my Avenue Skin product!
    My problems are solved!

  33. David C says:

Digital Davo & Brian – Thank you so much for your response. Very helpful & informative. With this half tube I should be able to get by until the ZincO becomes available again.

    Best wishes

    David.

  34. shirley says:

I am squeaking by on Linda Sy products until they are available again. I CAN’T WAIT!

Question: Does anyone recommend any mascara? I have ocular symptoms from time to time, but would still like to try to look my best.

  35. L says:

Hi all – just wanted to report that I just spent a flare up free week in the south with the combination of Rosacea Care sunscreen, Avene 50 spf, Toleriane foundation and Cover F/X pressed powder. Not one flare up – of course, hats and shade helped as well, but there is life without Zinco! Also – have been using Dermaglow sensitive moisturizer for the last 3 weeks with excellent results. My formula – cetaphil cleanser, then a base of Rosacea Care sunscreen. Let dry. Then mix some Avene 50 lotion or creme depending on your skin tone with some Toleriane foundation (again, buy your tone). Finish up with a sprinkle of Cover F/X powder (mineral based, originally formulated for burn victims) – I didn’t look like I was wearing a ton of makeup, I was protected from sun and wind and not a single flare up. Not the simple, one step Zinco solution – but a solution none the less. Washing with Cetaphil, and a baby facecloth, then slathering on the Dermaglow. If anyone needs more info, feel free to contact me.

  36. Joan says:

Is there anyplace that still carrie these products?? I have never found anything else that consistently works.

  39. Graeme says:

    Hi all,

Like so many others I was devastated when I found out that the Linda Sy products had come to an end. I’m 24 and have been dealing with Rosacea since I was 19 – for the past 3 years I have used the Linda Sy products and they really have made my life so much more comfortable – Guessing you can relate to this.

I’m delighted to hear they are now returning through Rosacea Care, I just hope they will ship to the UK like linda did?

I have two tubes of Tinted ZincO left so hoping this gets me through until they are on sale again. I have been using the Cetaphil moisturiser and cleanser on David’s advice and they have been ok so far I think.

    Cheers

    Graeme

  40. brian says:

It doesn’t sound like much is happening with the takeover of LSy.
RCare should make a public announcement.

I found my replacement but feel for the rest of you!
