Some followup comments that have emerged from a recent Rosacea News article on Grape Seed Extract + Vitamin C increases Blood Pressure. This article finished with the conclusion

Although the mechanism remains to be elucidated, these results suggest caution for hypertensive subjects taking supplements containing combinations of vitamin C and polyphenols.

A subsequent thread on The Rosacea Forum was wanting to downplay the significance of this study.

Some further comments from the Published Article’s Author:

The findings from our study were seen in treated hypertensives with additional cardiovascular risk factors. Although we don’t know the mechanism involved for the blood pressure increase, we are suggesting that people should use caution when considering taking these supplements. This research has been published in a peer-reviewed journal following a rigorous review process.

Are you saying if i take vitamin c and also take grape seed extract it will raise my blood pressure. When you say high vitamin c, what do you mean like 1000 mg or higher. Thanks, youe time appreciated.

  2. David Pascoe says:

Hi Dan, yes that is what the research is saying. I suggest that if you have concerns about mixing the two then perhaps the best advice you can get is from your doctor.

  3. Ted says:

Except for the fact that doctors receive little to no education/training on nutrition…

    • Fiona says:

In response to Ted’s comment. I am not a Dr or medically trained however I have used supplements for the last 30 yrs to address my health problems successfully. I think the use of supplementation of vit c and the use of anthogenol or grape seed opc’ s is the point not dietary nutritrition that is how I would interpret the Doctor’s advice and the study’s findings. I wanted to make this distinction here because I made the mistake of taking this product whilst on vitamin c 1000 mgs and my blood pressure rose to critical level & was hospitalized with a suspected stoke that day so it’s important people take note of this warning for what it is! Otherwise it’s a great product that works very well!
