Seeking to create products based on the recently publicised MRSA-killing topical Staphefekt are some topical creams to treat rosacea, acne, eczema and general skin irritation.

The company that reported results at the Antibiotic Alternatives for the New Millennium meeting in London, Micreos, has created a product web site to market possible topical treatments – calling it Gladskin.

How Does Gladskin/Staphefekt work for Rosacea?

The following benefits are claimed for Gladskin Rosacea; soothes the skin, relieves the itching and burning sensation, reduces redness, bumps and pimples, prevents irritation and inflammation and contributes to a healthy bacterial balance of the skin.

According to the company, the way that Gladskin Rosacea can help rosacea symptoms is that  “bad bacteria that cause the irritation, inflammation and itching. The latter [ie. bad bacteria] is usually due to the Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacterium”.

Rosacea Cream and Rosacea Gel

The topicals sold by Gladskin that target rosacea contain active enzymes so should be stored carefully.

The Gladskin Rosacea Cream must be stored in the fridge and has a shelf life of 2 months. The Gladskin Rosacea Gel has a shelf life of 6 months if stored at room temperature.

The Gladskin web site has several pages of reviews for Gladskin Rosacea. The comments listed seem to be describing mostly modest to low benefits. Some positive reviews are seen.

It appears that the company is allowing anyone to write a review, and translating them between the languages of the web site, so perhaps a real world view of the efficacy of Staphefekt in treating rosacea will arise over time.

Will Gladskin Rosacea Work?

Time will tell. It seems that only if your rosacea symptoms are caused directly or indirectly by the presence of Staphylococcus aureus will you see any benefit from this new topical.

All other skin flora should be unaffected by Staphefekt so your culture of Propionibacterium acne and Staphylococcus epidermidis should remain untouched.
