Rosacea Facts Website

Postby CrabbyCathy » Mon Mar 22, 2010 7:27 am

Just saw this on my local tv, and it's pretty good! It has information, links, etc. even a derm finder. It doesn't specify if they are rosacea specialists, though, but it's a good start. It shows you derms around your immediate area.

Thanks for bringing that to our attention, Cathy.

Here are my thoughts on the subject:

I would love to hear what others think of Galderma's new initiative.

Kind regards,

Just on the `find a derm' part of the initiative - Galderma see this as a key way of selling their prescription items. Perhaps they see that if people are prescribed something from a dermatologist then they will believe it is worth purchasing and even using to completion, including repeats.

It makes sense for a bigpharma to have a close relationship with specialists in their relevant area.

We all just hope that they understand the benefits and limits of the promoted products and don't just use it as a way to get the patient out of their office quickly.

You mean that perhaps those derms who pop up in the search function are recommending Galderma products?

I signed up for their little newsletter thing, just to see what kind of info they send out. Shall let you know.

I still think their facts, very basic though they may be, are good for people newly diagnosed with rosacea. :)

I agree. One of the worst things for anyone who has just been diagnosed with a disease is to get the wrong information. It could take ages and ages to recover from the wrong treatments.

Galderma is the major sponsor of the NRS, who additionally are the front line for rosacea education. Educating the public costs a lot of money so thankfully we have someone like Galderma who is willing to make information about rosacea available.

It is good that Galderma are providing this information, though 'educational' material is in effect marketing material. Drug companies are only allowed to educate in Britain not market their drugs explicitly - no doubt these laws vary from country to country. I would be interested to see more evidence of people who have actually gone into remission with Galderma's products, rather than simply them making their rosacea a little better. If it really is possible to go into remission with Galderma's products then there should be some examples out there given how many people are prescribed them with mild to moderate rosacea.

It depends of course on what one terms remission. Galderma would no doubt point to their clinical data showing a statistically significant reduction in papules and pustules due to their metrogel 1% and oracea products.

Whether or not these reductions are enjoyed beyond the course of treatment and therefore sustainable is of course another matter.

Also if you have other symptoms than papules and pustules then you might well continue to ask what stories can they tell. Sadly beyond light therapies of a few specific types and perhaps accutane for specific syptoms there aren't that many remission stories to be told.
