Hi HM,

What a disappointment for you! At least you can have your money back - not always the case in these days of financial uncertainty.

Have you looked at sites like SkinActives? I've not used it, but many rosaceans have.

I'm not suggesting that SA might sell something equivalent to the topicals that interested you, just mentioning them in case you want to see if you can possibly track down the main active ingredients and see how close an approximation you can create.

Thanks for the link. I'll look into them to see what I can mix up. It turns out Potters are having issues getting medical grade sublimed sulfur. I've been searching around to see if I can help them, but no luck yet.

I did manage to find a shop that still had one in stock so I've started using it. I was hoping to stock up but it expires next month, so I guess it'll be the same for anyone else that has them in stock :(

I've come across a product called "Prosacea" that contains sulfur and is designed for Rosacea (not too expensive either). I guess it wouldn't take much to add zinc oxide to this...

Thanks for your contribution, dailone. However, I am deleting the link because a net search indicates that you are the official contact person for that sulfur powder company. Also, to me, it looks like a bulk-buy or wholesale operation, whereas our members would most likely prefer to buy small quantities from a local supplier, wherever they happen to live.

I've had rosacea about 20 years. Can't afford Metrogel right now. It had got to where it wasn't working that well anyway. My face got so bad it looked like it would bleed. Been searching online for home remedies. Tried washing with borax, then dabbing with apple cider vinegar, and using honey topically when I could. I think the borax helps, the vinegar wouldn't really let the scabs heal, burned and seemed to make the skin redder. Kept searching- found someone who said they mixed sulfur with sunscreen and it worked for them. My dad used to work in a lab and he had brought home about 5 lbs of sulfur thirty five years ago and my mom still had it in a jar under her sink. So I got some of it and mixed 1 teaspoon with about a half cup of sunscreen. I apply it after I wash my face with borax. I have been using it for 5 days now (morning and night, leaving it on) and the result is almost miraculous. The redness is almost completely gone, the sores have healed and are gone except for a slight swelling under the skin in about 3 places, and they are going down. My nose which has been sore to touch and scabby for such a long time is well. This mixture does not burn, but it does tighten and dry the skin some. The sunscreen helps to counteract the drying effect. I have also quit using shampoo and conditioner and have started washing my hair with baking soda/borax water and rinsing with citric acid water. Just hope this might help someone else.
