experimenting 10 years, I freakin beat this!!!

Please read this. If this helps even 1 person, I will be happy.
A little background:
I'm a 39 year old male, I've been dealing with Rosacea for nearly 10 years. I was also getting random hives on my face, and I got to the point I could NOT go out in the sun at all. My cheeks and forehead would turn bright red, itchy and blotchy and stay that way for 5 or 6 days. Sunscreen did nothing for me. I have extremely dry skin, but moisturizer seemed to just sit on top of it, rather than soak in. I've spent thousands of dollars on every high-end product known to man. I have been to at least 20 doctors/specialists, in various states. I'm not gonna go through all the treatments I've tried (antibiotics, rx topicals, otc stuff, RET-A, lp, etc). They've all failed in one way or another. I've lost jobs, friends and girlfriends because of the anti-social effect Rosacea has had on me. If you have it, you know the story.
My lifestyle:
Up until the Rosacea started, I lived the 'Rock-Star' lifestyle (without the paycheck). I partied, drank, smoked, etc. I lived on the beach and never used sunscreen. I was young & stupid and I've been paying the price for it. I am a coffee drinker and I love sweets, breads, etc. I have always been thin, so I've never been on a diet besides those intending to control Rosacea.

My cure: I wish I numbered my experiments, it would probably be like #3500... Anyway, for whatever reason, this has worked INCREDIBLY FOR ME.

You will need: Apple Cider Vinegar, CeraVe PM facial moisturizing lotion and Mario Badescu's drying cream*.
*Mario Badescu's web site offers free samples of this.

Take a few days off because you're gonna look shiny/oily during this. Tell your friends you're going to catch up on housework or something..
1)Drink lots of water (duh!). Put 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in your water twice a day. This had amazing results for me within 3 days. Softer skin and completely eliminated the random hives.
2) wash your face with something gentle (non-soap) with room temperature water. I use Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming cleanser.
3) Put a lot of CeraVe PM facial moisturizing lotion on your face and wait at least 7 hours. (no kidding, 7 hours). You will look greasy, and if you look at your pores they will be "plumped up". Due to the "plumping", you will also see all of your blackheads are more pronounced. Don't touch. Just let the lotion soak in.
4) After the 7 (min) hours, wash your face with that gentle non-soap, and put more of the CeraVe PM facial moisturizing lotion on. Wait another 7 or 8 hours.
5) Then put a very thin layer of Mario Badescu's drying cream right over the red parts on your shiny, greasy face. Rub it well, but don't hurt your skin doing it. 6) Your Rosacea will start to go away within 20 minutes. No Sh*t people; 20 minutes. I did this a month ago and my face is flawless today. Better than I EVER remember. If it flares up again, just repeat from step 1.

To maintain

morning
1) wash gently
2) moisturize (I use Aveeno's Ultra-Calming moisturizer)
3) Sunscreen everyday ( I use Nuetragena Sensitive Skin 60+ spf)

Night
1) wash gently
2) CeraVe PM facial moisturizing lotion

Please try this. If it works , just say "yay" on this board and pass it on to fellow Rosacea sufferers. Any questions, PLEASE ask me.

Peace and good luck

I forgot to mention...
I drink the vinegar in water every day, regardless of my skin's condition. Organic is definatly different and better.
Also, I think the sunscreen I use plays a major role in the treatment. It is a physical sun-block (titanium and zinc dioxides), rather than the chemical kind.

Hi webdesignerGuy and a warm welcome to our board (wave)

Thanks very much for sharing your regime with us.

It's such a relief when we can eventually stumble upon something that works - or more often a number of things that work well together - and suddenly our skins look a whole lot better, as does life itself.

Kind regards,

Aurelia

Hey, This reminds me a bit of the controversial "no-washing" method, at least the part where you slather on tons of moisturizer. I've been doing it for 3 months now and, at first, I had tons of blackheads but they eventually went away. I am not using a cleanser, but rather a mixture of cream, water and glycerin to wash my face and then use a damp cloth to wipe away excess moisturizer/dirt. The idea is to never allow your skin to dry out. This has worked incredibly well, so much so that I no longer have a permanently red complexion. I still have an unpleasant sensation in my skin from time to time and a little acne, but no evidence of rosacea whatsoever. Glad you found something that worked for you! Thanks for the info. I'm going to incorporate some more ACV into my diet.

I found this routine by total chance, and 10 years of trial and error. I tried the CeraVe lotion on a whim (I have whims when I'm desperate). It's main claim is that it repairs your skin's outer barrier, and allows it to absorb moisture more efficiently. I tried the Mario Badescu drying cream on a whim also. It all just fell into place.

Diet: It is all in moderation. I am an indulgent person, but I've noticed that a slice or two of pizza won't do anything. If I eat a whole pizza (which I used to), I will be punished by the skin gods severely. I also have to moderate my intake of coffee, chocolate, refined sugary stuff, cheese, and sadly, beer. I still eat/drink these things, just not as much as I'd like to.

When I was a model (yup) trying to save my career, I went on a detox diet that worked very well. For 14 days, I ate nothing but lettuce, cucumbers, carrots, boiled chicken, white rice, and flax seeds. Drank water and Golden Seal only. It was a culinary nightmare for my palette, but it cleared every skin condition I had. I simply cannot live like that, so I eventually quit modeling.

It feels beyond fantastic to be able to go out in public without the self-consciousness. I want to grab strangers aside and tell them how to fix their face. I know the hell Rosacea causes, and I feel so much empathy for others with it.

Peace and good luck.

BTW:
If you try this, DON'T mix the lotion and drying cream before-hand. Your skin needs to be completely moisturized before it can accept the drying cream.

Did your rosacea symptoms include facial flushing and burning?

Skeecher78: Yes, it started with just flushing a few years ago, and progressed to insane itching/burning. I was an absolute mess.
