Before I was diagnosed I found that liberal application of Neosporin would clear up redness and pustules almost overnight. I applied a thick white layer on the nose when I had redness and pustules, and left it on for a 1-2 hours during the day, and at night. Usually by the next day my skin would be clear, but it wasn't a lasting solution; the redness and pustules would be back in a few days. I just thought I'd put this out there if anyone needs a quick "fix". Also, I used the cream, not the ointment, if it matters.
I've now just started a month of Amoxicillin and Azelaic acid cream 20%
Neosporin
Re: Neosporin
Hi, and welcome to the group!
That's very interesting about the Neosporin. May I ask if you've ever discussed it with your derm or other doctor to get their opinion?
Good luck with the Amoxicillin and Azelaic acid cream.
Kind regards,
Aurelia

Re: Neosporin
Thanks for the welcome. I think I might've mentioned it on Wed, though I don't recall a response. He seemed more intent on deciding what it was and a prescription. I assume it helps because its an antibiotic and generally always assists your body in healing wounds quickly. I was told on Wed that many people experience longterm recession after internal antibiotic treatment such as Amoxicillin, whereas the creams are more short term solutions.

Re: Neosporin
I have used hydrocortizon (non perscription) cream with good results, but as previous poster says, it's short term. I have read that using hydrocortizon may actually cause blood vessels to expand, but I haven't found that to be the case with me. But now I am using sulphur based Prosecea and it seems to be helping. I think we tend to get bacterial infections so the antibiotics help to fight that.

Re: Neosporin
I've been using metronidazole cream for a couple of years with mixed results. After a particularly bad flare, I decided to try neosporin instead. I've been using it for about a week now with good results. My skin is still red in the middle of my forehead and alongside my nose, but no painful bumps. It could just be coincidence, but we'll see how it goes. It's a lot cheaper and not carcinogenic.
