Rosacea accompanied by jaw line rash?

Hello, I'm new here, but have been a visitor to this site over the past year. I'v been suffering with mild Rosacea for about 8 months now which consists of a permanently red nose and red cheeks. I'v made many diet changes, eating lots of vegetables, protein, nuts, no dairy and just plain rice cakes. I haven't seen any improvement in my redness at all, in fact it's been getting started off with redness just on the bridge of my nose, now it's all my nose and my cheeks. I'v also had a few pimples on my cheeks, but what's confused me and concerned me the most is that a rash (that I don't think is rosacea) has occurred on my jawline. It's itchy and irritating, i'v also had a slight swelling in my face aswell a few times and have had some bad headaches over the last two days. I don't drink alcohol, I avoid all the triggers noted for people with rosacea, the foods i'v been eating haven't changed in months, i'v been using the same moisturiser (clinique redness solutions) for months which hasn't helped either...the only thing that has slightly helped to calm my face is sibu seabuckthorn oil, everything else is irritating...I'm started to feel so depressed cause everything I thought was the right thing to do is making no I am worried why this rash has appeared. Is it worth me trying a take antihistimamines? any thoughts? advice? Ree X x x

I can totally relate, sometimes doing the right thing has no other reward than doing the right thing. It could be that you need oral antibiotics and so i suggest you see a dermatologist. The rash could be an allergic reaction, and so trying an antihistamine might be a good thing. Using OTC cortisone might help as long as you only use it for a few days.

You did not mention if you had been to a dermatologist. There are some medications that they usually prescribe, like Metrogel and/or Finacea, along with an oral antibiotic that might be helpful to get the rosacea under control. I had to wait five months to see a dermatologist and in that time I had quite a bit of itching around my face from the rosacea. I had watched my diet carefully, just like you have, and noticed that sugar really caused my rosacea to flare. Also, fermented foods like cheese and yogurt bothered me as well. When my face and eyes were really itchy, I would take an Allegra or Claritin in the morning and that seemed to help.
When I saw the dermatologist he put me on an oral antibiotic and switched me from Metrogel (prescribed by general doctor) to Finacea. The Finacea has improved the condition of my skin, and while it is not perfect, I do feel the rosacea isn't spreading with use of the Finacea. I will stop the oral antibiotic this month and see if the Finacea can maintain my less aggravated skin.
Lastly, if you are looking for great skin care products, check out Paula's Choice by Paula Begoun. The entire line is fragrance free, non irritating, 60 day money back guarantee, and ordered from on line. For the past seven years Paula's Choice moisturizers, toners, suncreen protection, and make up have saved my fussy, dry, rosacea skin.

Best wishes,
