There is a lot of interest in how what you eat can affect your rosacea. Some foods can cause a flareup in rosacea symptoms. Also the makeup of your diet in general will affect your health for sure and also your rosacea.

Why is it that sugar is said to trigger flareups?

The effect of foods (particularly SUGAR) on Rosacea is indirect and frankly there are very few clinical studies on the subject.

In fact, for some people SUGAR is not a trigger. I suggest a 30 day trial and error period with different types of foods (including SUGAR).

In terms of theories on why SUGAR effects Rosacea negatively, the most common seems to point to a rapid rise in Blood sugar which triggers
an increase in Insulin ...ultimately resulting in inflammation on the cellular level.

Good luck !
