Millie, in having gotten your photo scanned you are one step ahead of me! (My printer has a scan button but it seems to exist for the sole purpose of mocking me.)

Ah!

I was going to ask how I can use a picture of myself like most of you; when I try, it says it's too big, the size is wrong, the "k" size is wrong, etc. etc. But it appears that I just re-size it, save it, then try to use it?

I like my crab avatar that I'm using, but it's nice to see a childhood pic of the people you're talking with. =)

I can always resize and upload avatars. In fact you can now send attachments via PM if you would like, or just email me at pascoedj+rosacea@gmail.com

Re: Can't get my avatar down to size.

Postby happy_blackbird » Mon Feb 16, 2009 9:04 pm

Hey there! I am new to the forum and have been having some trouble uploading an avatar. I have a tech question. My understanding is that they should be under 8px, 90 x 90, 72 dpi. How, exactly, is this possible? I do a lot of work with Photoshop, but I simply can not get my pic down to this usable size, no matter the compression or progression quality. I would so appreciate any suggestions Thanks! I love the boards!

8Kb is the maximum size, which is plenty for a 90x90 low colour gif or png or jpg even.

Try `Save for Web' and reduce the number of colours, and also try a gif or png with the reduced number of colours, and you will have heaps of headroom.

Thanks, David. I'll give that a shot! I do all my parameters manually ad didn't think to "save as" for the web. But that should work perfectly. Thanks! :)

David, That worked GREAT! Thanks for your quick reply. It's always a good thing to be reminded, too, of a skill that I don't use often, but I really should keep in mind. :)
