Hi all!
A few years back I had a bad breakout on my face - papules and pustules and big red plaques all over. It hurt to even touch my face. I was put on 100 mg of doxycycline to get it under control. I was only using Metrogel beforehand. I think it was a 3 month prescription of doxy initially. However, after the 3 months were over the Metrogel wouldn't do it on it's own and my face started breaking out again so the dr. just let me continue on 100mg of doxy.
At a recent dr.'s visit (with a different dr.) they suggested I switch to the 40mg dosage. I know that there's a concern of antibiotic resistance but it did make me nervous because my face has been really good on the 100 mg. It's been about a month since the switch and while I haven't had a major breakout, my skin is breaking out in small pustules daily and is much redder and I find it gets itchier off and on now.
Does anyone have any experience between the 40 and 100 mg of doxy? I'm hoping that maybe with time the 40 will get it back to where it was before? But I'm worried that it's only just keeping it under control right now.
Has anyone else stayed long term on 100 mg? I miss the way my face was. :(
Thanks!
Doxycycline - 40mg vs 100mg
`Systemic' is just a fancy name for tablets that you take that can affect your whole `system'. Stop in here to talk about antibiotics, accutane and other sorts of oral therapies.
