Cetaphil RestoraDERM for Extra Dry Skin

Cetaphil_RESTORADERM_Eczema_Moisturizing_Lotion

Already available in Canada, Cetaphil will introduce a new line of products for dry sensitive skin in August in the US. The line is called RestoraDERM and is targeted at Eczema sufferers who struggle to maintain the natural moisture balance of their skin. For

For those rosacea sufferers who also have eczema or also struggle with moisturizing extra dry or itchy skin, this range may be worth a try.

I suspect that the moisturizer may initial seem thick compared to other moisturizers familiar to rosacea sufferers. Please leave a comment below if you do try them. What are they like ? Do they help you battle with any of you rosacea symptoms ?

The Canadian web site for RestoraDERM tells us that the soap-free liquid cleanser is said to encapsulate high levels of moisturizing oils to cleanse and hydrate dry skin, whilst the lotion is said to contain patented ceramide technology to replenish the skin’s natural oils to help the skin to retain its natural moisture.

We are also told that both products are `clinically proven to be suitable for total-body use—including the face’ and are `ideal for the entire family’ and that the products have been demonstrated to relieve dryness and itching.

When Galderma acquired Collagenex in 2008, Collagenex listed a technology known as Restoraderm (along with Oracea and Sansrosa) as one of the assets acquired. Restoraderm at that time was described as a “proprietary, foam-based, topical drug delivery technology”. It isn’t clear to me whether this product is related to this technology or is something else entirely.

I am very curious about these products. i look forward to reading the comments.

  2. Me too, they look like they could be interesting for those who suffer from really dry skin. Hopefully they aren’t too oily/greasy to be of benefit to rosacea sufferers.

I was given the Lotion as part of a trial and I must say that the product is very nasty. I do not like the feel of the Lotion for it is way to thivk and does not seem to penetrate my skin. Not a fan.

I work at a pharmacist and I was able to get a sample. I must I actually like the product. It seems to work better on my skin then regular lotions. I didnt think it was that thick, better then Hydrolatum that i used to use before. I would recommend the product.

  5. Thanks Wei, great to hear some feedback from someone who has used it.

  6. Nicole says:

I found the products today at Walmart after almost buying Triderma at Walgreens. Triderma appears to be just organic aloe vera. I’m not saying it wouldn’t work, I have no idea because I didn’t get it, but I have aloe vera plants in my house so I wasn’t going to pay $15 for a very small tube of the same thing. Plus there was very little info on the box. I got the Cetaphil Restoraderm body wash and moisturizer which each have a $2 coupon if you peel back the labels. I only have redness above my eyes and it comes and goes but during the summer with fans and air conditioners, it is pretty relentless and itchy and a horrible sight to see plus distorts my vision. So I have used the wash which you use like any wash, I just did my entire face so I wouldn’t be using other soaps in the area. I plan to do this after shampooing in case shampoo is an irritant. It burned my red area. But after rinsing and patting it dry, I applied the lotion which soothed it. It feels better but looks the same, only has been a couple hours. I took pics so I will keep track of how well it works. O, I did like that these are “National Eczema Association Accepted Nationaleczema.com”. … and formulated for atopic skin as I haven’t been to a dermatologist and am only assuming this is the problem, just lost my health insurance but the red dry itchy patches come and go on my face around my eyes and chin and just started in Feb. Never had anything before that. Nowhere else on body. Very odd, not bumpy or anything like this pic, but more red:

Well, I will post again if it is a great success so I hope that is soon!

  7. Nicole says:

Well, I started the products yesterday evening and when I woke up a lot of the redness was gone. It is definitely still there, but I assume it will take time to clear up. Yesterday’s pictures looked like I had been punched in the eyes and today it looks more like a child put pink eyeshadow on me! The moisturizer is successful in relieving my itching as long as I have plenty on. I do try avoid getting it outside the affected area because it would probably cause my face to break out. It isn’t really greasy but I do keep applying it as my eyelids become itchy so with the heat it does warm and sort of spread a little further onto my skin. Well, it is hot out so what can you do. I would definitely recommend this product if you are itchy, red, and dry. I really don’t know how helpful the wash is for me compared to just using water around my eyes but I can feel like a sealant sort of feeling after I’ve rinsed it off, like a thin layer of some protection, but not til I use the moisturizer does it really feel relieved.

  8. Thanks for the initial feedback Nicole. Hope it continues to work for you.

  9. Nicole says:

you’re welcome. I am not sure what was causing those flare ups to occur so regularly at first except that I was working third shift and then having school all day first shift. Lack of sleep had me drinking coffee and sodas a lot. When I read here about how that opens the vessels, allowing the redness to worsen, it made sense to me. I cut way back on the coffee and the soda. But one day when I hadn’t paid much attention and had coffee at breakfast and soda at lunch. That feeling of itchiness around my eyes returned. So I believe this does have a major impact. Also the redness and itchiness begin when I go out on some weekends and have a few drinks. Which makes sense as drunk people always have redder faces! So I mind all of these things. Don’t forget, even Excedrin, my go-to migraine medicine, has caffeine in it. Just try to decrease your intake and see how it goes for you. I haven’t had a big flare up since making this relation. And I completely quit using the body wash, but I only get this around my eyes, so I was only using it in that area.

    Best of luck to all.

I tried the cetaphil lotion on my face it felt great but in a few days my face started to breakout and now I have a bad Rosacea flareup again.

  11. Robin Chambers says:

picked up a sample of the Restoraderm moisturizer at my derm’s office and used it on my face. I have rosacea that reacts to everything topical even tepid water and the Cetaphil was awesome. Didn’t irritate my skin and it looks smooth and soft. Redness has improved by 70% at least. Didn’t like it under my makeup it was too heavy and i was very shiny later. But I’m thrilled regardless and can’t wait to buy a big bottle and show my skin to my doctor next month , Yippee!!!!

  12. Justine says:

I was introduced by my doctor to cetaphil restoraderm due to the fact I had a horrible reaction to poison ivy. After nearly two months of oral and topical steroids on my body I had severe dry skin issues. Just after one application of restoraderm my skin felt wonderful! I am so greatful for this product!!!!!

  13. Thanks Justine, great to hear.

It seems that Cetaphil RestoraDERM is now also available in Australia, which is great news for those downunder.

    HI
My 5 yr old son has eczema and we started using this product back in June 2010 when it was available here in canada. It really does work! It is the only wash that I find works for him and its really improved his attetion at school because he no longer has to suffer. His eczema is on his hands and fingers so not a good place for someone just learning to print. He is very happy with the outcome and takes as he calls it HIS soap everywhere.
The coupons on the back are a nice bonus as well.

  16. Alicia Kirby says:

My son has severe eczema and is 2 years old.Im looking for answers for why Cetaphil Restoraderm causes my son to scream bloody murder anytime its applied on his body. He literally screams and cries right after I apply it and tries to rip off his pants….I have never seen my child in this much pain. I thought it was made to soothe??? I have used other lotions that do not do this to him. He was put on an oral steroid yesterday and Dermasmooth prescription as well. But I went to put this on him before bedtime as reccommended by his dermatologist and he just screams and screams. I thought the first time it was just that his eczema was really cracked that day. But, tonight, he did the same thing and his skin isnt cracked just very red and irritated….Please help if you have had the same issues with it. Thanks

  17. Nicole says:

It does burn when you first put it on if your skin is inflamed. It stings. But then if feels better in a short amount of time. Maybe ice it before you put it on and for a couple of min after.

  18. Amber says:

I am on accutane and this seriously is the only moisturizer that I can use. Im four months in and have had EXTREMLY dry lips and face. It is thick and at first when I put it on it feels greasy, but ill take that any day compaired to dry itchy skin right now. Ive tried probly 30 other products and moisturizers and have found that if I dont use this restoraderm lotion on my face, it breaks out and freaks out. I cant wait to be done with this treatment but this product has saved my life. If i find that I left it at home after going out of town I seriously have a mini panic attack because it is literally the only product that works.

My son has been using both the lotion and cream for 2 months now. Skin badly cracked. He gets so stressed just before we apply the cream which he says makes his skin ‘burn’. I am yet to see any change but his doctor has said we should be patient. When we apply the cream he cries ‘literally’ and it pains me seeing him like that. Am really trying but not easy!

Hi I have not been able to purchase restoraderm in the UK but looked at the ingredients cet alcohol etc and some of them make me worder if I would react to them. At the moment using the genle skin wash not problems with that.

Stopped using the cetaphil moisture cream as my skin nips a bit then its okay however noticed I get lots of pustules when I use it.
I am using aveena cream its free of fragrance and Lanolin and calms my skin down but its still dry,I got a sample of la roche-posay new moisurizer yesterday and I am patch testing it for 4 days in hope its better than aveena.

I really am needing to find a light makeup free of fragrance and Lanolin alcohol allergic to these also desperatly need a sun screen tried a few tinted ones which were useless at the moment putting on a sunhat for protection.

Help I would be very happy if someone replied with some details of what they were using succesfully I have seborreic derm and pustules with the rosacea plus the allergys its a real effort some days to get up and get going.

    best wishes

  30. Sara says:

Don’t have rosacea, haven’t tried these products, but came across this while researching some products for my acne-like issues. Reason I wanted to post is because some have mentioned that the moisturizer helped, but made you break out, or you get “pustules.” I thought for YEARS I had bad acne, cystic acne. When I went to the derm, I found out I had perioral dermatitis, and that it was irritated by persistent exposure to mint in my gum and chapstick. I stopped both and skin cleared right up. Then all of a sudden it started back up again, and I discovered that it wasn’t necessarily the mint in the gum, it was the SORBITOL sugar substitute! (I had switched from mint sugar-free gum to bubblegum flavored sugar-free.) I again had an issue when I bought some new hair gel… broke out badly behind my ears. Checked the ingredients… #3 on the list… SORBITOL! And guess what the moisturizer has in it? You guessed it! I’d say it’s a safe bet the pustules are related to the sorbitol, and NOT your skin’s condition. It’s even in clean n’ clear products, most hair gels, clear gel based skin care products, etc. And you’ll find that no OTC acne remedy makes them go away 🙁 Just time and TLC.

    BEWARE THE SORBITOL!!

Im using cetaphil bar soap for face and body.. I bought restoraderm to give a try cz I hv dry itchy skin. Can I use Cetahpil restoraderm lotion on face? Pls. reply. thanks.

  34. Nattie says:

You can buy Cetaphil at major supermarket or watson/guardian in Singapore.

I also have a Restoraderm Moisturizer 295ml right now, brand new, (just bought it off a clinic 2hrs ago). Selling it at SGD30, bought it for SGD40+. It’s a wrong product as the clinic assistant gave me moisturizer instead of body wash which I had wanted, so now cant find people to sell it to.

Anyone in Singapore wants to buy it please contact me.!!

  35. Wits End says:

I have rosacea and I was using the Cetaphil Gentle cleanser and Restoraderm as my facial moisturizer–with good results, but still occasional rosacea flares. My dermatologist recommended I try Metrocream and switch to CeraVe Foaming Cleanser, Facial Moisturizing Lotion (for day) and Facial Moisturizing Lotion (for night). My skin has been feeling very dried out, it may be the Metrocream, but I think the Cetaphil Restoraderm does a better job of moisturizing my face (especially in dry winter air)-but it has no sunscreen.
Also the Metrocream is so drying, my face gets red, itchy, and flaky. I think I’m going to start using the Restoraderm at night, it is wonderful for the itchiness and I don’t get such dry skin with it. I’ll try to keep using the CeraVe during the day and the cleanser.

  36. Aby says:

Hi may i know if this also works in removing the rashes? Or just the itchyness? Thanks!

  37. I bought the wash and lotion yesterday and tried it twice s far. I have notice the cream burned a little immediately after applying, hoping this is normal as I saw a few other comments saying the same thing. I haven’t noticed any immediate results in redness, itchiness, or flaking, but I’m going to keep using it hoping its will be a long term solution.
