After years and years of dealing with Rosacea and trying everything under the sun to stop it, I just happened to come across a cure by accident and noticed lo and behold, my rosacea improved dramatically. I came across this Mediteranean Food store that sells all kinds of good things and noticed that they had like 7 different kinds of Kefir cheese in one refrigerator so I decided to try it. Supposedly the Meditranean (I know my spelling sucks) is a healthy diet so why not. For two dollars I tried it. And guess what...it cleared my Rosacea like nothing ever has before. The brand that I bought and/or still buy is Labne Kefir Cheese. It has live probiotic cultures and it is kosher. The ingredient list states: Cultured pasteurtized grade A cream, nonfat milk, whey protein concentrate, pectin & salt. Contains live active yogurt and probiotic cultures S. Thermophlus, I. Bulgarcus, I. Lactus, I. Casel, I Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium. Contains: Milk. It is a one pound plastic container. And it has led me to the conclusion that Rosacea is linked to the health of the gut. The way it works best is to eat a big heaping tablespoon just before going to sleep at night. I eat it with Akmak crackers and olives. I sprinkle a little garlic powder on it for flavor. It really really works. The other thing that has helped my Rosacea was to not eat potato chips. I think it has to do with the oil. I eat tons of carbs and sugar but I usually check the oil that is used in whatever processed food that I buy because for whatever the reason some oils seem to make my rosacea worse. I use to not eat potato chips but now since I have found the Kefir cheese helps, I can get away with eating potato chips now and then. Because by golly I really really love potato chips. Also for cooking I use 100% olive oil. If it doesn't say 100%, don't buy it. It has to be 100% olive oil as that seems to be the only oil I can tolerate. But the Kefir Cheese - WAY OUTTA THIS WORLD!!!! It has helped to reduce and nearly cure my rosacea like nothing else. I don't work for no Kefir cheese company - all I can tell you is that it really really works!!!!

Hey! Update from 7 months ago!
My Rosacea has calmed down ALOT! (the only thing that is major factor which does keep it in an irritating condition is lack of sleep at the moment).

I stopped using the erythromycin tablets my doctor had prescribed; but slowly came off of them as it was doing the skin worse than better, and was only very temporary relief. So I still use the Cetraben emollient cream which is still very good, also for eczema too; and a thin layer is best for this. And I just olive oil on my face every night, and a wash morning and night with a pure olive oil soap. The anxiety levels have also gone down loads as I dont tend to get in a claustrophobic state like I did. (It comes with the stress of something that irritates the heat.)

I've just learnt so much about how having Rosacea is about inner problems and negative emotions draining you to a high impact state. Its about sorting your problems out and recovering things that stress you and make you sadly emotional in your life so you can move on in a way that is positive. A good book to read about is called 'Joy-full: hollistic home remedies' by Georgie Holbrook.

Hope this helps you, reading this :)
HAPPY healing to all.

Tea tree oil definetely works. Well it did for me anyway. I bought a cream called proskin rosacea by mama nature that contains tea tree oil and it has made my rosacea so good that it is no longer noticeable. It did get worse at first after using the cream but this is supposedly because of the demdex mites dying off. They recommend you use it daily to prevent the mites from returning so I just use some at night before going to bed. It lasts ages anyway so it's not that costly. I suppose you could add tea tree oil to a moisturising cream. Good luck everyone.

I started getting small painful bumps/pimples around my nose which spread to my chin. I have fair skin and live in the Colorado Rockies where the cold can bother one's skin too. I had a chemical peel that stated a side effect could be rosacea and lo and behold, that is what I got. I blush easily and have redness issues. I tried everything I could in the store and nothing helped. I went to a dermatologist who told me I probably had acne and prescribed a cream that made it worse (he kept wanting me to come back so we could try different things). I found Kopec Naturals on line and tried their "K rosacea relief". It contains tea tree oil and immediately on putting it on my face I felt relief. I used "K rosacea relief" for 6 months WITHOUT using any moisturizer at all. I have now been rosacea free for a year and a half. Even though not using moisturizer feels really awful at first (skin tight and dry) your skin quickly adapts for the short term and soon one can wash your face with soap and not be bothered afterwards. "K Rosacea Relief" was a life saver and I would highly recommend it to anyone! Try it, stick with it and don't use moisturizer! They were excellent on the customer service end too.

Hi everyone - just to keep you updated and maybe help with the Rosacea problem, I used Tea Tree Oil on my bad patches and it's definitely helped to stop the Rosacea spreading and cleared up a lot of the redness and spots. This is what I use now:

Evening - To remove make up (even eye-make up):
Trinity Moisturising lotion for Sensitive Skin (white tube) which I put on my face to remove make up (the Trinity gentle make-up remover for sensitive skin didn't work for me). Then I use a muslin cloth (which I boil in the microwave - it does work) to remove the cream - then I use Avene Water Spray and wipe again. Then put some more Avene Water Spray in the areas where the rosacea is still a problem and gently dab a small amount of Tea Tree Oil on those areas and leave overnight. At first the Tea Tree Oil dried my skin and it was quite flakey but now is ok. Then I use the Trinity Moisturising lotion for Sensitive Skin to moisturise my face only on the areas where there is no rosacea (around the eyes, sides of face, forehead and neck areas).

Morning - To clean face
I put some Avene Water Spray on my face then I use a clean muslin cloth (boiled again)to remove the water - this definitely helps clean my face. Then I put some more Avene Water Spray in the areas where the rosacea is still a problem and gently dab a small amount of Tea Tree Oil on and leave again. Then I use the Trinity Moisturising lotion for Sensitive Skin to moisturise my face only on the areas where there is no rosacea (around the eyes, sides of face, forehead and neck areas).

For me, there definitely seems to be a problem with bacteria which the Tea Tree Oil and boiled muslin cloths together work well. I bought about 6 large cloths and cut them into four pieces and I only use once before I then boil them in a plastic container in the microwave for ten minutes about 3 times a week. I know all of this info seems to be a long ritual but you quickly get used to it and I have noticed an amazing difference. I just wish I could find a moisturising lotion and some sort of foundation that I can wear all day on top of the rosacea areas which doesn't make it flare up - must be an answer somewhere.

Try adding apple cider vinegar to your diet.
Add it to soups, cut up some tomatos & cucumbers with it.

***************************************************

I'll cut up a few cukes & dip them in ACV and within 45 minutes,
I do feel & see some relief.

It's great to know there is a site for Rosacea help. I have tried lots of expensive potions and creams and at present only use only Trilogy to remove makeup and as a moisturiser around (not on top of) the rosacea. I can see it spreading across my face which is worrying. I looked at Wikipedia for Rosacea and they say small intestinal bacteria may play a part in Rosacea - it goes on to say that patients were given a 10 day course of Rifaximin, a non-absorbable antibiotic that does not leave the digestive tract and therefore does not enter the circulation or reach the skin. 96% of patients experienced a complete remission of rosacea symptoms that lasted beyond 9 months. In the 4% of patients who experienced relapse, these patients were given a second course which cleared up the rosacea again. I have not tried Selsum Blue but am trying Tea Tree Oil. I do find Avene Water Spray one of the best things to use - I use it after cleansing and before applying the Tea Tree Oil as it dilutes it.

Does anyone know a foundation I could use which won't make the Rosacea flare-up and which can cover it? I've tried Green People but no success with their products.

update, i did the tea tree oil, vitamin e and selsum blue and I did not find that this worked for me :(

I had a co-worker tell me about the Verite line by Estee Lauder. Expensive but I am finding the it has helped with the burning and my face is not scaley. Still do have some pinkness, would love a way to get that away, but at least it's not on fire. Has anybody heard about taking a beta blocker to get rid of the redness. Fyi i am on the oreaca drug for the breakouts.

Hi Vickie,

I agree the advice you can find supposedly from Dr. Oz is brief and doesn't give much insight into what he actually said about licorice extract. I have only read articles about using it topically, but that is not to say that something else was also being considered.

Personally I doubt he has access to information that we don't already know, and it seems clear to me that he was talking about the actions of Glycyrrhizinic acid topically.
