Prosacea User Reviews

Prosacea is a topical gel, available over the counter at stores like Walgreens. Prosacea is only briefly mentioned in the online support groups. Below is a hopefully balanced selection of user comments from rosacea sufferers who have tried Prosacea.

prosacea_sku_picProsacea lists its Active Ingredients as Sulphur 1x (Rosacea/Acne Treatment Gel), and Inactive Ingredients as Acrylates, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Diazolidinyl Urea, Lactose, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Tetrasodium EDTA, Triethanolamine, Water.

Best I can tell, Sulphur 1x is a homeopathic measure which means 10% sulphur. So it would appear that any possible benefits seen when using Prosacea are based on the inclusion of sulphur. If you are a homeopathic expert, please feel free to leave a comment below to confirm that Sulphur 1X does indeed mean 10% Sulphur. Thanks.

I have some great news to share! I have had Rosacea since 1994 (my pregnancy brought it on) and Finally, an over the counter treatment that works!!!!! The Product is called “Prosacea” and I bought it at Walgreens for $9.99. It is a tube of “homeopathic gel”. I find it an ANSWER to prayers!!!  It’s good to be here to share the news…… Try it…… it may help a lot of discouraged sufferers!

Hi everyone!!! I’m back with my report!

I LOVE PROSACEA!! Many of the reviews said that the users saw immediate results within 1-2 days. For me, it took about 10 days to see results. However, now all of the bumps are gone and the redness has faded incredibly!

hikari on Tue Jan 22, 2008

I am bummed to say that one month after starting Prosacea my skin is not looking good again. The little bumps have re-appeared, although the redness and painful under the skin bumps have not yet. I guess it’s back to square one…

Prosacea is AWESOME!!. Have been using this product since NOV 2007, once a day in the morning. I’m on my second tube. $10 dollars for fixing a disheartening problem I’ve been dealing with for over 15 years. My skin is now beautiful. My nose is no longer red, not swollen or sore, no more pustules. I look in the mirror and can’t believe how great my skin looks, with or without makeup. Others have noticed the improvement, too.

My friend also has a bad case of rosacea like mine, her skin started looking so much better, I asked her what she was doing and it was the Prosacea she picked up at a drug store. I have spent literally thousands of dollars trying to correct my rosacea and can’t believe a cheap little tube of ointment cleared it up. I am still amazed. I’ve have never posted on any forum like this, but I had such a positive experience-I just wanted to share it.

I tried Prosacea only one time and my face reacted horribly, I should have done a test patch first so please be careful if trying this product for the first time. Rosacea still has so many unknowns that it’s hard to say if you will react favorably or not just because some folks here had good results. Sulpher has been used as a successful treatment for many skin conditions for many years but not everyone can tolerate it, just do a test patch to see how you react first.

This product contains parabens (methyl and propyl) -not good for us! I have had great results with Rosacea Ltd., which does not contain potentially harmful additives. It is very inexpensive and there is a 120 day money back guarantee. Their website is extensive and all is well explained. I highly recommend Rosacea Ltd.

#3 karen on 03.20.08 at 5:16 am

I have been using prosacea also. It is working for me. Makes my skin smooth. Is bringing down the redness, but not enough for my liking. I will keep using it though.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? I will look into the Rosacea Ltd.
thanks!

I’ve had rosacea for 15+ years. I’ve used MetroGel before with no results. I just happened across Prosacea for $9.99 at the Rite-Aid drugstore a few days ago. I’m using it morning and night. It’s practially odorless, and it does not burn or sting my face. The redness is a little better already, and there are fewer bumps, so I’m going to keep using it. Also my cheeks are smoother than they’ve been in years! YAY! :)

I’m in rosacea denial but I have started to do research and did try a product that claims to be “calming” to the skin. I tried both the cleanser and the moisturizer. Both were okay but they worked better when I started to remove the cleanser with a warm cotton knitted washcloth followed by patting with a cold cloth. I’ve been doing this for a month and the dryness is almost gone, the redness is reduced. Here is the website: http://www.sensaria.com/ Look for Soothing Cleanser and Soothing Moisturizer under skincare. I have yet to find make-up that doesn’t dry out my skin, make my pores look larger and the doesn’t irratate. I even tried Bare Minerals.

For those of you who did not find Prosacea helpful, I am so sorry and hope you find what works well for you as I know how this infliction can take over your life.

Prosacea seems to be a miracle cure at the moment, I have only been on the cream less than two days, but the bumps and redness and itching and flaking are so much better.I feel like I will get my life back if it continues to work this well.I actually have perioral dermatitis but a dermatologist was going to prescribe a treatment for rosacea, so I looked into how to treat POD, but I could not book the appt. until two weeks from now and I have been desperate.

Prosacea is available at Walgreens and if ONLY someone told me about it sooner. It is a sulpher based otc gel and costs about$10.Blessings, Christine

#7 Christine on 05.11.08 at 1:51 pm

One week later, and I look ‘normal’ without my awful rash.If only I had found this sooner.Thank you, God, for the people who created this product. It is just tremendous.

#8 Christine on 05.20.08 at 1:18 pm

Three weeks later, still improving. If I get sun on my face or fail to apply Prosacea, it starts to return.I am afraid to be without it.

#9 David on 05.27.08 at 2:28 am

I got a tube from rite aid last march.
i dabbed a small amount on my nose before i went to bed and there were visible improvements the next day. Now my nose is clear and smooth.

#10 peri on 06.07.08 at 2:30 pm

i have been dealing with a moderate case of perioral dermatitis for the past 10 years, and so far prosacea has been the only topical product that has toned down the redness within the first day of use (altho my face was kind of healing already). i will try to use it daily to see if it will prevent future break-outs.

#11 Digital Davo on 07.31.08 at 4:55 pm

Hey thanks for all the feedback on Prosacea. This product seems to be a bit of a quiet achiever, even maybe underrated. Perhaps this is because of its low cost and easy supply.

I’d love to hear from more Prosacea users. Please do let us know what you think of it.

this product worked great for clearing up the bumps and redness on my face, and within a matter of just a couple of days too. i was super pleased with the results, the availability, and price! the only thing i hate about it is the smell, it doesn’t have much of a noticeable smell straight out of the tube but i swear after it dries on your face it has the rotten egg sulphur smell that will stay with you all day long even after you have washed your face. my boyfriend claimed he didn’t notice the smell at all but then again he may just have been being nice haha ;)

#13 Heidi on 08.13.08 at 11:53 pm

I have been reading the comments and i am going to try the product prosacea. Does it help the reduce the red spots on your face caused by broken cappilaries????HELP PLEASE

#14 Digital Davo on 08.14.08 at 10:23 am

Hello Heidi,

That is hard to say, but I think it will probably only have a mild effect on the appearance of the broken cappilaries. A tinted sunscreen might help and also IPL or various sorts of lasers can also help with the visible blood vessels – as they can be quite deep, deeper than a topical product can reach.

Well…As for using Prosacea. I saw this offered. And like everyone else. I was stunned to think that a simple cream that was so cheap….would be the cure all for my very bad stage 1 Rosacea. After all…After 8 years I have tried it all!! But….I got tempted again. And like most OTC products. I bought into the claims. I put this cream on my face. And in about 4 hours…I was blood red! I couldn’t wash my face fast enough to get it off. So..as they say! Buyer Beware. I have said it before and I’ll say it again. OTC products hardly ever really work. We all need and want a treatment. But I’m so sick of OTC products making claims that are sub par!
Good luck to all!

Tried prosacea and by day two I could not get if off fast enough. My face is worse now then when I went to the dermatologist. It is so red, bumpy, breakouts, hot and the itch is like I could just rip my skin off. I stopped using prosacea but I am in day 2 of not using it and my skin is still bad. Looks like it is going to take a little time to get over this one. OTC I guess are no good for me. Tried Zenmed to and had worse breakouts.

#17 Michele on 10.09.08 at 12:49 am

Hi, I would have loved to say that Prosacea was the answer for me. But I have a feeling it is more for people with acne than rosacea. I have lupus/rosacea, and I was really hoping it would work. But unfortunately, not only did it completely dry out my face the very first time I put it on, but I came down with an immediate migraine from the smell of the sulphur. Even after washing it off, I still had the smell on me, and even other people noticed it. Headaches are a very big issue for lupus/migraine patients, and smells set us off right away. I pray that they can come up with a cream that does not smell as bad or is as drying. I am going to try aloe vera gel next. If anyone has any suggestions for me, I would truly appreciate it. Thank you, Mish

#18 CJ on 10.09.08 at 2:36 pm

I dont see how any of the reviews on here are credible. If I was the makers of prosacea, I could easily come on here and post 10 comments under different names talking about how good it is. The only reliable people on the internet in my opinion is the ones on forums where you see they post alot and arent just spammers who set up the account the same day. This site isnt a scam, but I come across alot of websites for rosacea, and they give good reviews on a product, but then if you put your mouse over the link to the sales page for the product, you see that there is an affiliate link in there, so they are getting paid a commission to refer people to buying the product.

#19 Digital Davo on 10.10.08 at 10:40 pm

Hi CJ,

You are right, it is hard to tell the scammers – and especially on a blog like this one where anyone and everyone can leave a link. I do delete obviously made up posts, but it can be hard to tell sometimes.

At least on a forum you can earn a reputation from a series of genuine sounding posts. Blogs are harder to see reputation.

#20 missy on 10.11.08 at 12:43 am

From what I can tell by reading reviews of many of the products on here Rosacea varies a lot from person to person, what works great for one person turns out to be a nightmare for another. Many products are hit or miss and it looks like a lot of people have to try a bunch of things before they find something that works. Just because Prosacea didn’t work for you doesn’t mean that the people who give it good reviews are scammers or that it won’t work for others. I for one had great results with it and was inspired to post about my experience hoping that someone else can have positive results with it too. You shouldn’t let your own negative experiences try to discredit those who’ve had a positive one.

#21 Digital Davo on 10.16.08 at 10:12 am

Comment via email:

I have a right to let people know what a horrible experience that I had. It is to make others aware. Are you paid by them to defend them so much. Good for you it worked. I was letting them know of my experience and to beware. They can choose to use whatever product they want. Are we suppose to only leave good comments? You are way out of line here

Diane Soltyshak

#22 missy on 10.17.08 at 12:47 am

Did I ever say that you shouldn’t post about your negative experience? NO

Did I criticize anyone on here for posting about a negative experience? NO

I was defending MY personal experience, because I felt it was being challenged as fake.

What I said is that one shouldn’t try to DISCREDIT those who have a positive experience as fakes or paid “scammers”. This is exactly what YOU are trying to do by claiming I am being paid to defend them which is completely ludicrous!

Your negative experience does not automatically make my positive experience or anyone else’s fake just because you didn’t have one.

Bottom line is that Rosacea sucks and NO product is going to work for EVERYONE

YOU are the one who is out of line by making nasty accusations.

#23 Bri on 11.11.08 at 11:18 pm

It dryed out my skin.

#24 Blitzmann on 11.19.08 at 10:37 pm

I noticed one comment about Prosacea containing “nasty” parabens and should be avoided for this reason. It almost read like a plug for Rosacea LTD since that product does not contain parabens.
The fact is parabens are anti-fungal additives commonly added to cosmetics, shaving creams, etc. Parabens are effective at what they do, and have been tested extensively to find that have no toxicity to humans and do not accumulate in the body.
Other than that, I have Rosacea and haven’t tried any products yet. I came across this site trying to find reviews of Prosacea. As the results seem to be hit and miss, depending upon the individual, I will at least try it. Cheaper than my co-pay to see a doctor or prescription antibiotics.

#25 jared on 11.21.08 at 5:08 pm

Well, like i see alot of people have writen, i never heard of it, saw it at walgreens and decided what the hell it’s only $ 10, why not, and well…… oh my god!!!! i have tried every thing and this is literary the awnsers to my preys. I have sufferd of rosacea since i was 13 and i’m now at 25, i finally found something that works. i’m on day two of treatment and the results are amazing. I cant wait to see what my skin looks like in the next month. Trust me it’s a ten doller gamble and well it worked for me and on a scale of 1 – 10 of bad skin i was an 11. i just wish more people knew about it, cause i’ve surfed blogs to find remedies and all i’ve stummbled onto is crap and unaffordable treatments. Please try it and when you get results which i’m sure you will, do what i have and write a blog post on another site. so that people become aware of this stuff. Rosacea has killed my life, if only i had stummbled onto this stuff in my teens life would of been alot diffrent. I’ve included my email, so any further questions, shoot send me an email. PS i’d like to add that i dont work for any company, in fact as proof heres a con to the product – it carries a suttle unplesent oder. but the benefits are ow so worth it. Peace out Jared

#26 jared on 11.21.08 at 5:18 pm

Oh just to add i read some more of the post, and see that some people did not have a good experince. Right now i had extreamly oily skin which i think was the main cause of my extream rosaeca. So yes the product dose dry your skin, but if your skin is anything like mine was, thats the ticket for results.

#27 Dianne on 12.29.08 at 11:51 am

I just started treatment today with Prosacea. With the rising cost of healthcare and most of the medications prescribed by my dermatologist not being covered by my healthcare, I figured it couldn’t hurt to try something new. I have had rosacea for over ten years and have spent well over $10,000 in treatments.

I hope this helps. It would be nice to have something that works and save some money too!

#28 Digital Davo on 12.30.08 at 2:35 pm

Hi Dianne,

I think this is one of the great hopes for Prosacea – that it might actually work for some people AND be cheap.

All the best, let us know how you get on.

Hello Again,

It has been a few days since I started using this product. From the previous posts I have read about this product, it is obvious that it does not work for everyone. However, I am happy to say that it appears to be working for me! My husband has noticed a difference and says my skin is clearer and not as blotchy. Even my pores appear smaller! I realize I may sound like an advertisement for this product, but I am simply so happy to find something that works so well! After years of disappointing promises from products that cost three times as much, it is nice to find something that works.

Thank you Digital Davo for your support and well-wishes.

#30 kim on 01.18.09 at 11:31 am

I’ve been using prosacea for a couple of weeks. It does stink, but I’ve found I don’t notice the smell as much when I don’t apply it around my nostrils. I put it on my cheeks, chin, and the top of my nose…but not above my upper lip or on the underside of my nose. Simple solution that made it more tolerable for me.

Jury is still out as to whether or not it’s helping.

This product has given me my life back. I am a college student and have been extremely concerned about the appearance of my face throughout high school and college. But prosacea has been the answer to my dreams. And the most unbelievable part is it is only $9.99 at the Rite Aid. I found that applying it only once a day, right before bed, yields better results than using it twice a day (maybe during the summer when it is more humid out I will try it twice a day again). You do have to be patient with it, the first 3-4 days are a little rough while your skin is getting used to it, but then it is just all positive from there on out. It has reduced the redness in my skin by at least 50 or 60% already and I have only been using it for about 2 weeks now, once a day. It is my miracle drug and I wish I could do something more to promote it because it has helped me so much already with my appearance and thus, my self esteem.

#32 Me on 01.31.09 at 11:17 am

I started using this stuff about a month ago and my skin looks so much better. The white bumps have gone away. When I first apply it, it does redden up my skin, but then calms down. My skin, still has a pinky glow, but nothing like it did. I plan to keep using it.

#33 Deb on 02.16.09 at 4:20 am

I just purchased Prosacea yesterday and have used it three times (morning and night). This stuff is absolutely amazing! I’ve already seen improvement…slight but definitely improvement. My nose and portions of my lower cheek had redness that nothing improved…until now! The redness is fading to pink and bumps are not as pronounced. My Mom also has rosacea which did not respond to medication. You can be sure I’m going to share these results with her!

#34 Don on 02.18.09 at 9:24 am

I have had rosacea for probably 30 years. I am an adult male of 65. The redness never really disappears but fades to pink. The itchiness along with flakiness stays with me for days on end. Have been using hydrocortisone cream (OTC) Cortisone 10 and that helps with the itching and some of the redness. Flaking after application with cortisone usually disappears in 2 or 3 days.
Things to do that can help are daily cleansing of the skin with a gentle cleanser such as Cetaphil. Use your hands and don’t rub with a wash cloth as this will only serve to irritate the sites more. Keep your scalp clean. Shampoo at least 2x a week and if you have dandruff use a good dandruff shampoo. Change your pillowcase at least 2x a week.
Bought some Prosacea today and have applied it 2x. So far no adverse effects. Have noticed redness seems to have improved a little. Itchiness seems to have almost disappeared. Have tried metrogel and found it to be worthless. Tried Doxycyclene and it helps but not much. Flare ups become more frequent as you grow older. You’d think it would dissipate to some extent because of age, but it doesn’t. Hope this stuff works and I’ll try and keep everyone posted.

#35 Don on 02.20.09 at 11:25 pm

So far after 3 days of using prosacea the redness is not disappearing on the forehead. Forehead still itches and bumps are present. Cheeks seem to have cleared up some and dryness on cheeks is disappearing. Hope to see better results in the next few days.

#36 sam on 03.05.09 at 1:28 am

I had redness on my cheaks for several years of which i presumed was ROSACEA. Once bumps started to appear I thought I needed to do something about it. I had laser treatment which really did not help that much.

I finally found Prosecia on the web and figured $8 is no risk to try especially when I read all the reviews from customers.

Once I got the product the redness started fading literly within 12 hours.

After a few day the bumbs and redness are completely faded. I am amazed that a $7 bottle cleared this problem up.

God i hope this works i just started it got it last night.
My Story:
This all started when my wife left me for another man it was last june. Then in July i started to notice that out of the blue all of a sudden my face felt like something was crawling on it and it would itch like crazy. It did this on and off for a few weeks then went away. Then about a month later it was back and worse than ever,
I would be at work or here on the computer and bam out of nowhere that weird crawling feeling and god awful itch.It would itch for 10 to 15 minuets then go away but left a little welt and somtimes a little tiny pus pocket like a pimple but didnt act like a pimple does,
Just recently over the past month it has become non stop everyday thing the sudden itching and little welt followed by the tiny pus pockets.
I have been to a Derm. And he seems to think its adult acne.God i never knew acne to itch like this and behave in this manner.
Was just wondering if anyone has had this weird sudden itching and so forth.
Thanks
Jim

Another use for prosacea. My story is way to long to share here but a couple of months ago I broke out with what the doc said was a Rosacea breakout. After the birth of my son I dont really trust docters anymore. (Another story for a different blog, perhaps). I decided to figure this out on my own. About 9 months ago I began to take Propecia (male balding drug) and i think it messed up my bodies ability to help fight foods that I only had a sensitivity to. I now have a full blown allergic reaction to dairy and wheat. It is getting much milder after being off Propecia the past 3 months. For 30 days I went on an elimination diet. Ate only rice, veggies, some fruits and meat that I prepared at home. Then introduce food items back in. Thats how I pinpointed dairy and wheat. Well, I just got back from a week in Palm Springs, very much needed as I live in Seattle. And unless you are a much stronger person then me, on vacation, all things food are a go. When I came home from all the wheat and diary I had eaten I broke out with welts all over my chest. I decided to do an experiment. I broke my chest into 3 parts. On 1 part I put Prosacea, on part 2, I put Benadryl cream, and part 3 I put Mupirocin (doc gave me to try for my diagnosed Rosacea). Within 2 days the part I treated with Prosacea was totally healed, the other 2 parts were virtually unchanged.

I am a firm believer in Prosacea when it comes to welts from food allergies!

#50 Shawn on 04.01.09 at 1:31 pm

I realised I had rosacea about 3 years ago when I got a weird rash on my face that didnt go away. I was afraid it was herpes of some type or something but after extinsive research I concluded that it was rosacea. I have come up with a remedy that works great for me. Once a week I splash my face with rubbing alcohol(it burns like hell). and gets real red. but I immediately rub on noxema and let it work in. I wash it off and apply a small amount of prosacea and my skin after a couple of days was like new again. I have small occassion when I get alot of sun when it appears again but for the most part I dont even notice it anymore. I use noxema every morning and only use prosacea about 3 times a week.(if I use it every day my skin gets too dry and it dosent work as well). I no longer have bumps or redness just sometimes small blotches here and there but nothing like it used to be. Remember rubbing alcohol ONLY once a week and noxema every day and prosacea 3 times a week, works great for me maybe it will work good for someone else as well.

#51 susan rodriguez on 04.12.09 at 10:15 am

prosacea is the worst thing i could have ever put on my face! i regret it terribly!! i had a birthday party to go to tonight and i am missing it because my face broke out even worse than it was to begin with!!

i know that it’s a hit or miss situation when one tries such products, and sadly, prosacea was an unfortunate miss for me.

im sure that ive missed out on a memorable night out with friends simply because i cannot stand to go out with my face a badly broken out as it is, and that is the sad, party vain, truth!!!

use prosacea at your own risk!

i am fortunate enough not to have bumps but have suffered from facial redness and burning for years. Anytime I am active my face turns bright red and stings. Prosacea has been amazing. I use it only at night and it has made a world of difference. I am soooo happy!! I highly suggest it and yes I have Extremely sensitive skin. Good luck!

I TRIED PROSACEA AND SO FAR I NOTICED THAT MY SKIN IS NOT AS RED, THE RESULTS AREN’T DRAMATIC BUT AT THE SAME TIME I AM NOT USING AS OFTEN AS I SHOULD. I BELIEVE IT SAYS TO APPLY 2-3 TIMES A DAY AND I ONLY APPLY ONCE A DAY. I WILL CONTINUE TO USE IT. I DON’T MIND THE “DRY” FEELING BECAUSE I HAVE OILY SKIN, SO TO ME I ACTUALLY LIKE THE MATTE FEELING IT LEAVES BEHIND. AS FOR ODOR I DON’T NOTICE AN ODOR AT ALL. MY SKIN DOES FEEL A LITTLE SMOOTHER TOO.

#54 Lisa Miller on 04.30.09 at 2:05 am

I would like to say that PROSACEA has worked wonders for my Rosacea. I used prescription remedies, one being Doxycyline, and it made me nauseous so I stopped. I’ve never noticed the odor (sulfur) that so many people have talked about.
I think it’s GREAT :)

#55 Jim on 04.30.09 at 2:28 am

ITS EVIL IT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET!!!!!!!THIS CRAP IS JUST THAT CRAP!!

#56 C on 05.05.09 at 1:57 am

I have had rosacea and dermatitis for 13 years and while some Rx’s have helped me such as elocon, clenia, and elidel… the clear skin tends to fade after months of becoming immune to the medication. Plus some of them have been proven to cause cancer so that worries me. I picked up some Prosacea from CVS today for $10 and applied it to my face. It feels cool when you first put it on and doesn’t really burn at all unless your skin is cracked or extremely inflamed. I plan on giving it a try for a week to see how my skin reacts. I’m not banking on an OTC miracle cure, but it would be nice to have something easily accessible/affordable to ease my flareups and keep me from looking like Rudolph. Will post a followup soon…

#57 larm on 05.08.09 at 6:32 am

This is to Jim,

I take prescription Finacea for my rosacea.

It is a cream made from citris acid that you put on your skin as needed. It tingles when you put it on but the sensation goes away after a little bit.

It is the only product that has helped my rosacea, I would suggest asking your Doctor about it.

#58 Michael on 05.13.09 at 7:02 am

Background:

I have moderate rosacea, with permanent redness on the forehead, nose, and cheeks almost to my ears. I have perhaps 1 or 2 papules, so it is mostly the redness I have to worry about. I have tried Finacea but my skin has become very sensitive to any and all cosmetics over the years, probably from the rosacea itself, and Finacea only really helps the papules and pustules associated with rosacea anyway, not the general redness. Even softly washing my face with Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar using my fingertips, then lightly blotting with a large fluffy towel and letting the remainder air dry (as recommended for the most sensitive skin) will leave it extremely dry, itchy and inflamed for hours afterward.

Possible Solution:

So I purchased Prosacea at Walgreen’s, put it on and immediately my face reacted as I expected it to – it immediately became dry, itchy, red, felt very tight and had almost a slight leathery, stretched look to it. HOWEVER, after waiting 10 minutes for it to dry, I applied Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion to it, and checked it 20 minutes later. It now looks literally better than it has in months – the redness is quite a bit lighter, and while I can still see the general red outline, even that seems like it is sort of melting into the “normal” color of my face. And this is after 1 application. So I will keep everyone updated on the progress, because I’m seriously thinking about spending the $1500-$2000 on laser/IPL treatment very soon. *frustrated*

So basically, for the previous comments about your face reacting horribly to it, make SURE you apply a good moisturizer to it just afterward, and I wouldn’t use this more than once a day, probably at night before bed.

#59 Valkyrie on 05.31.09 at 11:32 am

Prosacea works. It smells like sulphur, but it’s a small price to pay for smooth skin. It works fast too. I have seen results within only three days. It’s amazing. My skin is smooth again. I can actually go without makeup again. I love, love, LOVE this stuff. None of the prescription stuff worked, none of the expensive stuff worked. This stuff works.

Someone else already mentioned it, but it is definitely a good idea to moisturize after applying. It can dry your skin out. I use Aveeno Ultra Calmin moisturizer. Very good for people with rosacea.

#60 Matt on 06.08.09 at 1:26 pm

56 Male. Mild to moderate redness. No affiliation with the makers of Prosacea. Worked for me. Continues to work. My best results are to wash my face once or twice a day with dial bar soap. Apply Prosacea to the mask (red areas). It dries leaving my face feeling smooth. The redness has mostly gone away and stayed away as long as I keep on it. Metronidazole never did anything useful. I don’t let cortisone touch my face anymore at all. I avoid anything that seems to have petroleum based products in it. For me Prosacea is the most effective thing I’ve tired. I’m very sorry it doesn’t work for everyone. This makes me think that this is a fungus, yeast, or other tiny critter that’s trying to make a living off my face.

#61 Jimmer on 06.10.09 at 11:03 pm

I have suffered with Rosacea for quite a while, mostly without knowing what it was. IT started getting progressively worse in my mid-40’s. I have been to several dermatologist and undergone multiple courses of antibiotics. Nothing has worked for long. Metrogel wouldn’t touch it. Anything with large amounts of urea in it caused my joints to swell.

I have tried sulfur ointments in the past to no success.

I started using Prosacea 2 months ago after my wife brought home a tube. I have to say that this is the first time in years that my face has been relatively clear. I still get the occasional spot breakout, but the multiple cysts and lesions have abut subsided. Now I am using it just for spot treatment of small breakouts.

I wonder if the aloe has something to do with it?

Other things that I am doing different:

My Dr said that I really didn’t need to wash my face. That was the last time I went to him. I found out that didn’t work when the breakouts spread to my eyelids. But he did recommend using Neutrogena T/GEL shampoo on my face. I have tried multiple hair shampoos and all seem to have created problems. T/GEL didn’t help much but it put me on the hunt for a shampoo I could use on my face.

I have stopped using any soaps or shampoos that contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate(SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate(SLES) together. Both is very irritating and can strip the essential oils from skin and hair. I have found a shampoo l’Occitane ‘Shea Butter Ultra Rich Shampoo’ that contains Disodium Laureth Sulfate(DLS) that seems to be much more gentle. I have done some research and DLS is as bad as SLS or SLES, but most shampoos have both in the formula. This shampoo only has the one.

The Shea Butter adds a moisturizing component. I will use this until it stops working which always seems to happen. But in the mean time I have a much clearer complexion than I have had in many, many years.

#62 Jessica on 06.19.09 at 2:30 am

I have to say that I found Prosacea by accident, and figured why not try it. I was sick of people asking if I was overheated or embarrassed or laugh bc they thought I was blushing. Make up wouldn’t cover it and no matter what my skin was covered in bumps. so I tried Prosacea and it worked almost immidiatly! instead of bright vibrant red my cheeks faded to a healthy pink. The bumps…well what bumps? My wedding is coming up in a few months and I feel as though I don’t need to wear any makeup at all just mascara and lipgloss and i’m good to go. I’m so thankful I found this product, now I can look at myself in the mirror and feel BEAUTIFUL, without saying…”if only my cheeks weren’t so red!”

#63 Bob on 07.12.09 at 7:06 pm

I’ve been using Rosacea Ltd. with mediocre results. I have found that using jojoba oil 3 times a day helps quite a bit. I might try Prosacia but I don’t want my skin to burn off. That Jim guy seems pretty pissed.

#64 Joe on 07.28.09 at 2:21 am

Prosacea is the ONLY substitute for high-octane steroids that works with my skin.

I have a combination of rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis on my face, and this is the ONLY thing that has consistently worked for me. I will use this until the day I die (hopefully they make it for another 30+ years). My face breaks out in red, bumpy skin, and also dries up at the same time. This solves the red, bumpy skin and dried up problems I have had for years, at the same time.

#65 Alex on 07.30.09 at 7:53 am

I live Australia, my mum brought this back from America to see if it helped, worked for me. Enough said.

#66 Allison Singler on 07.30.09 at 10:47 am

I read above that someone was asking for a homeopathic expert. I’m no expert, however I have been in a homeopathic study group for 7 years. The question was: is Prosasea 10% sulpher. I can say no. Homeopathic remedies contain only traces of the substances they are made from. For more information look at nationalcenterforhomeopathy.org. I will also add that I have used ProBiotics successfully instead of the commonly recommended AntiBiotics. I use the Total Flora Formula from EcoQuestintl.com

#67 Digital Davo on 07.31.09 at 10:55 am

Hi Allison,

My take is that prosacea is not a homeopathic remedy in the sense of having `almost undetectable’ quantities of sulphur. Thus it seems to be a sulphur treatment as such.

My 81 year old mother is a retired nurse with an active license and after trying everything under the sun for her Rosacia, she tried Prosacea. Her skin looks amazing. I cannot believe the difference after all these years.
We both suffer from Hashimotos disease and Rosacea is a byproduct of this disease. I try and stay gluten-free to avoid the redblotches, but my skin still isn’t great.
My mom just gave me a tube and I am anxious to use it. I’ll take the smell if it clears up my skin as great as my moms looks! I’ll be back to let you know, but I like what I am already seeing.

Prosacea works for me. I say ditto to all the feedback above – it turned my red nose and cheeks to pink and smoothed the skin alot. I DO apply a moisturizer (oil free fragrance free) 5 minutes afterwards.

I also take MSM (which is sulfur basically) as a pill supplement. I figure what works externally would work internally, too. Prosacea is basically a sulfur compound.
Together those two are AWESOME for my rosacea.

good luck all..

In response to JIMMER….you should also check your toothpaste for SLS, which is the substance that makes the lather, whether in toothpaste or shampoo and soaps. Since changing my toothpaste it has helped around my mouth area tremendously. Tom’s of Maine, JASON Brite Smile are two that I’ve used, they’re available at health food stores and probably on-line as well.

Now on to PROSACEA….I just saw a commercial on tv and am fact finding at this point. It looks as though more people have had positive results, than not. Therefore, I’m going to give it a try! Can’t wait to see if it helps…I’m so tired of looking like a big tomato! Will post back with results.

Y’all have a great day!

#71 Shadri on 10.01.09 at 3:04 am

I just bought some Prosacea and applied it during the day one time, then again at bedtime. In the middle of the night I woke up with my face burning, stinging and itching like mad! I reached up to touch my face and found it covered with a rash. Forehead to chin! That was Saturday night. The rash is almost gone today (Wednesday). I’m so sad it doesn’t seem like I’ll be able to use it. Was so hoping for help.

Found Prosacea only a couple days ago at a CVS near my house.

After one treatment, half of my face turned into a dry, peeling mass- not something I expected, since I usually have oily (oilyoily) skin. Within 18-24 hours, I had acne underneath the dry patches. Make sense? Not to me- now I have to moisturize and keep my skin clean until this goes away.

I’m afraid I won’t be using the rest of this tube, but at least it was an inexpensive experiment… and now I know to avoid sulfur-based treatments.

#74 Alabama Amy on 10.18.09 at 7:01 am

Prosacea has so far given me great results for my acne and rosacea. I am 38 and have had acne and rosacea since high school. Various prescription medications, both oral and topical, failed for me. I even tried Murad and Proactiv products. The one Proactiv product that helped me was the clarifying mask (it’s like a white, clay mask), but it just wasn’t convenient and couldn’t be used under my makeup. The clear mask that they just came out with that you can wear under your makeup didn’t seem to be as effective as the white clarifying mask. Not sure why since both products contain 6% sulfur.

I remembered from one of my dermatologists visits that she recommended sulfur products if I my skin was able to handle it. Apparently not everyone’s skin reacts well to sulfur as evidenced in the comments above. I realized then that the active ingredient in Proactiv’s white clarifying mask was sulfur which had worked for me. So I decided to give Prosacea a chance since it also contained sulfur.

And thus I found a product that worked wonders for my extremely oily, acne, rosacea skin. Prosacea not only helped with the redness and acne, but it also left my skin feeling really smooth after applying and helped a lot with the excess facial oil. My makeup goes on like a dream!

I wish that Prosacea would make a cleanser and toner with the sulfur in it. Since this product has worked so well for me and others, I would love to see a full product line. My goal is to one day not be ashamed or embarrassed in showing my face without makeup. Hopefully with continued use of Proscea, that day will come.

#75 Valkyrie on 10.18.09 at 1:57 pm

I like how the people who did not get good results claim those of us who did are getting paid by Prosacea to post positive reviews. lol I’m just a regular person and I didn’t try everything under the sun before I tried Prosacea, but I did do Metrogel with NO results at all. Prosacea has completely smoothed my skin out. The smell is bothersome to me, but I guess it’s worth it for me. The redness is still there, but the bumps are gone, and that was the thing that bothered me the most. I only use it once a day–in the morning. And it’s been fantastic. I love it and am so glad I found it. It was recommended to me by a friend.

I think rosacea is just one of those things that is not fully understood (like a lot of skin conditions)–no one really knows what causes it. Also, I think not everyone is actually diagnosed with rosacea, they just self-diagnose. I was diagnosed by a dermatologist so I know that’s what I have. And Prosacea works for me. Sorry for those it doesn’t work for but just because you are bitter, you shouldn’t go around calling the people who it’s worked for liars or shills.

#76 Gary on 10.23.09 at 9:22 pm

Hey all, I have been using prosacia for roughly 1 week and the redness and irritation have simply vanished. I think the problem for some people using this product may be overuse of it. I wash my face with a gentle bar (cetaphil) in the morning and always apply the cetaphil face lotion immediatedly thereafter. at night I wash it one more time followed by a thin coat of prosacia. That treatment has worked wonders for me. This should work for most! Remember, wash your hair everyday too.

#77 billy on 11.12.09 at 8:47 am

2 days and it seems to be working well, does anyone think there’s a problem using some jojoba oil to moisturizer about 20 mins after i put the prosacea on?

#78 Joyce on 11.16.09 at 3:18 pm

I am 70 years old and have been figting rosacea for about 25 years. I ruined my stomach with tetracycline, and minocycline (sp?), taking them for years. I used the expensive Metro-Gel and Finacea, one morning and one nightly for years. I used Clindagel. All RXs. Once my dermatologist had a compound made for me. My rosacea was always there, and I would think, maybe it would be worse if I didn’t do something, so I kept trying. Lastly, I had stopped going to the doctor (a top one in the country) and kept using my Metro-Gel and Finacea when my rosacea became severe. A pustule would last for months. My granddaughter told me about Prosacea. I used a tube and could see an improvement. I bought a second tube and when I wake up, my fase isn’t red and at this moment I don’t have one bump except on the top of my nose. I am starting my third tube. I am thrilled to have found this product. I don’t believe my rosacea just went away, I am sure it is the Prosacea. I found this website trying to research sulfur to see if it is the same as sulfa drugs. I had a severe reaction to Bactrim (given for my rosacea). Even so, I have had no side effects at all from Prosacea. And to think, it only costs $10.00. I think my 90 day supply of Metro-Gel and Finacea was several hundred dollars (which my insurance paid).

#79 Digital Davo on 11.16.09 at 9:07 pm

Hi Joyce,

Thanks for you comment. It is great to think that such an easily available and cheap treatment has been effective for you – well done!

I have had Rosacea for about eight years. Tryed the Doctor prescribed Metro gel with no noticable help. My wife got me Prosacea that she found in a drug store. I didn’t think it would work, but tried it. To my surprise, it did help. The acne stopped imediately, the redness faded, and the blotches began to reduce. I only use it once a day, but I am now on my second tube. It has not eliminated the symptoms, but almost. For me, this product has worked very well.

I am only 22 and started getting Rosacea symptoms which my grandfather has pretty bad. I have very clear skin for the most part minus a few pimples every now and then, so when I started to get redness on my cheeks I started to worry. Then I started to get these pimple looking things, to the touch they weren’t bumpy or anything but it looked like I had broken out horribly on my cheeks. My mom just bought me Prosacea a week ago and have been using it for 4 days. I started using it when my face was bad (about once a month for two-three days it gets red and spotty, then it goes away) and right away I felt like it was working. So far so good!!! My face looks better! I can’t say it FEELS better but my face never hurt but many people told me it was because I am young and later on it will start being a little painful. I also want to say using Cetaphil moisturizing lotion on my face has helped SOOOO much too. My cheeks often feel really tight and around my nose gets really dry and flaky :( My doc recommend the cetaphil and have had no problems with dryness or flakiness since! These two products together have been really good so far! I guess since I’m gonna have these issue all my life it’s good to know I’ve got some good remedies! Hope this helps!

#82 Sofie on 12.28.09 at 2:12 pm

I just realized that I have rosacea a couple of months ago. So now I am trying everything on the market.

I have used this for 2-3 weeks and it does not help.

It feel soothing and dries fast but has done nothing for my redness and bumps. I am very disappointed.

Im happy for the people it helps though, we all have different skin types.

I just bought the Clinique series yesterday and I am hopeful.

#83 missy on 12.28.09 at 3:10 pm

Well, the Prosacea worked wonders for me for quite awhile but then seemed to stop working, I am not sure why (see my previous review of success) Anyways, I moved on to a stronger attack plan of a combo of Oracea pill in combo with Finacea topical cream (both prescription) and it has made a big improvement in my skin. I have been using this combo for quite some time with consistent results, just a suggestion in case the Prosacea stops working or hasn’t worked for you. You can also get a really great discount card on the Oracea website fyi cause believe me it ain’t cheap =)!

#84 Kurisu on 12.31.09 at 1:19 am

This product is a godsend. I have been using it for almost a year now and will be forever grateful that I found it. Previously I was taking antibiotics daily and using metro gel. I just did not want to be on antibiotics for the rest of my life but without them my face especially my forehead was a mess. The results were immediate, overnight my face was much better. By the third day my face was clear. I will never be without Prosacea. Not everyone will have the results that I have had but for those of us who respond to treatment I think we all agree that’s it’s a miracle product.

I love Prosacea. I live in Sweden and bought it at CVS for 10 dollars, I have terrible skin after I got pregnant, it´s now 8 years ago. In Sweden the only help I got is penicillin, but I don´t like eating it. I hade ILP, but it didn´t help. I LOVE this creme, I have a totaly new skin, no burn, no redness. Recommend!

#86 Elin on 01.17.10 at 6:40 am

Homeopathics are energetic medicines. In Homeopathic preparations, the’active ingredients’ are diluted over and over until they are undetectable in the final product, and are believed to gain strength with each dilution. 10X does not mean 10% sulfur; it means that the sulfur has been diluted ten times, a relatively low strength dilution in homeopathic terms. Remedies can be diluted hundreds of times. Homeopathic sulfur might indeed be the correct remedy for a particular rosacea client, but certainly not for every individual with the condition. Homeopathy is not a one remedy treats all system, as the individual is valued and considered when selecting a specific remedy for treatment. But generally, if it’s not the correct remedy for the individual, there is no adverse side effect with a homeopathic remedy. There are quite a few other ingredients in this product that could be causing the irritation in some users mentioned here.

#87 Sheri on 01.18.10 at 10:48 pm

I love this stuff! I’ve been using it for about 3 or 4 days, and my face looks normal for the first time in years! I’ve always had a red face, while the rest of my body had a nice beautiful pale ‘normal’ tone with yellow undertones. You could actually see the line on my face where one color ended and the other started. Now i’m all the same shade, and i’m very greatful. :)
Woo Hoo! :)

#88 claire on 01.19.10 at 3:01 am

I started using Prosaeca, 2 days ago twice a day and my face was pretty red and tight the 3rd day- I didnt use it today and after reading this blog I’ll reduce to once a day with moisturizer- annnnd go see a dr rather than self- diagnose. I’m hoping the redness starts to fade- I’ll blog again after a week.

#89 debbie on 01.22.10 at 7:12 am

So far So good. I bought it Yesterday I was having a really bad breakout . The underground bumps that hurt with really red nose. I have had this condition for 22 yrs Seem to come on with the Birth of My Last Child. I have used Metrocream , MetroGel, Finacea, Antiboitics nothing except Elocon which is a topical steroid seemed to help. I was anxious to find something over the counter that was reasonable. I think I have found it. the sores seemed to have dryed up some and redness is much lighter in one day. I am an Office Manager not a paid Blogger. The pain I was in and the soreness seem to have lessoned. So lets hope this is my Miracle. Believe me I need one. I am tired of having kids say boy your sun burned or what is wrong with your face. I am sometimes a little mean and say I have a disease.
I hope this helps someone. I believe it is working for me. YEA!!!!!LoL!!!!! Something that has not made it worse so far..

#90 Chad on 01.24.10 at 12:49 am

I’ve had fairly mild Rosacea for about the last 20 years and used Metrogel off and on, but it didn’t seem to help much. For the last few years, my main problem has been pustules that appear, which are sore and take a long time to go away. A week ago I woke up with a patch of about 15, which is probably the worst outbreak I’ve had. I had a big Margarita the night before; not sure if this could have been the cause. I searched online that day and found this site and the information on Prosacea. I immediately got some and have been applying 2-3 times a day. Right away it seemed that it started to shrink the bumps. A week later my face is much better – I’m expecting within a few days it should be clear again. It seems that Prosacea worked pretty well for me. It has a slight odor, but not too bad, and I didn’t have any significant problem with drying or irritation. I’m going to continue to use it and see if it helps prevent future outbreaks.
