Important: helpful information about Calming-1

I ordered this about 3 months ago and had immediate flushing and some minor bumps too. I contacted Purified and they gave me some suggestions that helped me tremendously. I also did my own research and here's what worked for me:

The flushing is most likely related to the niacinamide. Although niacinamide has proven to be valuable in strenghtening the skin barrier and soothing the skin, it can initallly cause flushing and bumps for some. It usually results from the skin reacting to the level being to high for the skin. For some, their skin has to adjust to it slowly. Remedy for me - dilute the cream until you develope tolerance. I added a equal amount of water (you can add your own bland moisturizer or lotion instead) to mine. That really helped alot. I only used it once a day for about two weeks. I then slowly decreased the amount of water. I now use it once a day at full strength and my skin looks pretty good and seems to be more tolerant in general.

It's also important to know the difference between allergy and a temporary reaction though. If you have intense itching along with really tiny bumps you may have an allergy.

Good Luck. Hopefully some of you will find this helpful.

Hey, Calming Serum Lovers & Haters!

The wealth of positive & negative reactions to this product seems to confirm what all of us finally admit to ourselves: what works for one rosacean may fail miserably for the next.
It is the nature of this accursed disease! Like addiction, rosacea is cunning, baffling & powerful. You become obsessively aware of 'triggers,' you waste money on every new product & it CAN rule your life when you are slammed by a long 'flare-up.' That is such a quaint term for the terrible physical & mental pain we suffer from hard bouts of rosacea.
I get the Nat'l Rosacea Society Newsletter & it is worthless. Any single person on this site knows more than the 'medical researchers' they report on. Is ANYONE getting closer to a cure? At least, a decent medicine?
I guess we need to write to Merck & other Big Pharma companies & let them know they'll make LOTS of money off us if they'd look into this seriously.

On other fronts, I decided in late 2010 that I was red enough to blow $800 on two sessions of that Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment. I thought I'd need 3, but after 2 sessions my redness had really receded.

To my complete amazement, it stopped ALL my flare ups for about a year. Only in the last month, with the cold, dry winter weather, has my face even gotten hot. It also gets hot when I use my laptop--like now. So I'll cease. Soon.

The point of my comment is this: Accept that some things work for you, but not for others & vice versa. And that what DID work for you may not CONTINUE to work for you. Keep an open mind, read ingredient labels, try to stay calm, eat well & rest.

And why NOT drop a note, once a month, to a new pharma company (Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Lily, etc.) advising them to look at this site to find proof of the HUGE number of potential customers they'd have for a REAL rosacea break through?

I'm sure Dave, the Master of this website, has much more to say on this than I. Probably, I should have checked on his efforts before running on like this. But that's not how I roll. Nope, I shoot my mouth off & only then consider the logical route...

I love you, all my fellow sufferers, & I want SO MUCH for all of us to be rid of this painful, confidence-destroying, & really annoying disease!

Tim and Natalie,

Did you find that your initial reaction of increased redness continued or abated?

I received my first order of "Calming 1" from purified skincare yesterday and applied it last night. immediately my face flushed bright red and hot. I was so surprised. This morning my face is still flushed and bumpy.

I am not sure I want to continue with this so-called "Calming 1"

Hey Natalie, I just ordered and received Purified Skincare's "Chrysanthellum Plus Cream" and started using it. I immediately noticed that I broke out upon using it. I read on some boards that the active ingredient in both my product and "calming-1" is the chrysanthellum and it will cause the occasional person's skin to react, perhaps an allergic reaction to the plant extract. I will use for a couple more days and see if it gets better, but i am not optimistic. Sounds like it works for some others though, so good for them.

I recently tried "Calming 1" based on these reviews... my skin went painfully beet red almost instantly and now the next day is still flared up as well as bumpy. I was prepared for some minor flare up as sometimes that happens before my skin turns around and gets better, but this was/is extreme to the point I think I'll not try it again. Anyone else have a similar reaction? I have been using retinA, which has greatly improved my skin to the point all that is left is some very light lingering redness, which I was hoping "Calm 1" would help. Maybe there was a negative interaction.

hi,
i started using this product 3 months ago and this has proven to be working quite well. It started working after 2 weeks of using it and it kept my skin very calm, as the name suggested. It has reduced the redness. Now that I have run out for almost a month now, I have noticed the increase in redness, therefore this product is not a 'cure' but it definitely works.

I have also tried Arubix and I must say Calming 1 works much better and cheaper!

Hurray! Another happy user! We MUST keep this company in business, folks. PurifiedSkincare is where it's at, as far as rosacea skincare.

And thanks for reporting in, "#5." Your comment caused an email to hit my inbox, reminding me I need to re-order my serums!

I think I'll write PurifiedSkincare and tell them to advertise on this forum. We just have to get the word out to everyone about this company's products!

I'm really happy my comments helped you to find "Calming-1"! (Finally, I'm getting it right...)

Thank you mary brady for sharing. You really help my life.

PurifiedSkincare's Calming-1 is the best product that I've been trying and using to cure my skin problem.
I started to use it 3 weeks ago. Now my skin is getting a lot better. My friends also notice it.
So happy with this product. Highly recommended.

Thanks again mary brady :)

I am an idiot.

I just made the SAME mistake again with the names of the serums from Purified Skincare!

They are "CALMING" not "calm"...

I'll never post again. Until there is a "preview your post" function.

I could just die. Oh well...

Thank you, Tamara! Indeed, the serums are called
"Calm 1" & "Calm 2"--sorry if I led anyone astray.
The "Calm 2" has sulfur in the form of MSM. This, too, is a great rosacea healer, e.g., the Rosacea Ltd "yellow disc" is a sulfur compound.

However, I found the sulfur in "Calm 2" by PurifiedSkincare was MUCH easier for my skin to tolerate than the Rosacea Ltd yellow disc.

As Tamara notes, Purified Skincare puts several other ingredients in their products that really help rosacea skin, too.

Please--everyone buy stuff from PurifiedSkincare so they never go out of business! I'm sunk if they do...
