Gentle Cleansers Anyone?

Postby redbreanna on Tue Dec 04, 2007 11:02 pm

Anyone have suggestions on gentle cleansers for our inflamed, red skin? I have tried Eucerin and Aveeno with no relief, and I need something preferably without harsh chemicals so I can also wash my eye area to remove makeup. I want one cleanser for my entire face, if possible- but something gently enough that won't dry my skin or aggravate to rosacea. Thanks to all.

I've been using Cetaphil Gentle cleanser. To remove makeup, I gently rub it on my dry face then wash it off. Also DHC has a fantastic Olive oil cleanser. I love this stuff, but it's very pricey.
Hmmmm, Christmas is coming.......

I used Toleraine Dermo Cleanser for years. It's super gentle, and does not dry out the skin. It's made for "intolerant" skin.

Cheers!

Great, thanks! Where do I find these? Keep the suggestions coming- also, can you include what type of cleanser it is, i.e. liquid, foam, creamy, gel, etc.

Thanks! :)

Hi Breanna.
I use to be able to use Dove soap for sensitive skin, recently I've tried the Toleriane from La Roche Posay which seems to work OK and Avene's Extremely Gentle Cleanser. I've also recently tried the Eucerin Redness relief gel which you rinse off and that didn't work. I guess I just can't use the cleansers with water anymore. My rule of thumb is no fragrance.
Take care.

Hi Breanna
I purchase aqueous cream at the chemist (in Australia). It is creamy and quite heavy, I apply it with wet hands and keep adding tepid water until it waters right down and washes off.

hello

I'm new to this rosacea forum business and not even sure if I should tell you about my favourite cleanser as it's as much a curse as a blessing.

the product I use is called roseliane. it was recommended by my dermatologist when I was diagnosed 5 years ago. I have tried others but always come back to it as it's got no alcohol in it and is very soothing. only thing is it's virtually impossible to get hold of and I now have to buy it in bulk. I've recently found a new supplier in spain, a website is called parasolder. if you're interested let me know and I'll send you one I've nearly finished.

they also make a moisturiser which is extremely gentle but is a bit vile as it doesn't have any alcohol and it makes your skin feel chalky and weird.

Magick Botanicals Oil Free and Fragrance Free Shampoo + Vitashower (Vitamin C) Shower Filter.

Yes, shampoo. I'm a red head. I have extreme sensitive skin with allergies to cleansers, soaps, hot/cold water, dust .. you name it. I have Rosacea (with some acne breakouts) and seb derm really bad. My skin has gone through years of burning from chemical sunscreens and sun exposuer with steroid thinning of the skin to boot. My skin is so sensitive it has lost it's protective barrier and appears to be in a constant state of trying to heal or like a wound would. I'm sure I have contact dermatitis as well. I even tried for years to not use anything but water, but it just allowed my skin to be even thicker from the seb derm buildup.

I have tried everything. Even Cetaphil for me is way too irritating.

This shampoo has very little sudsing. It does cause a very small amt of irritation if exposed to the eyes, but very little. Do to the very little sudsing, I wash my hair and take the lather from my hair and cleanse my face very gently. Taking the lather from my hair on the second wash dilutes it before it gets to my face. The result is just enough cleaning with very little strength and no residue to irritate.

Because I have allergies to chems; even water irritates my skin something fierce. I recommend using a shower water filter. I use Vitashower (Vitamin C Filter). It gets rid of the chlorines and vitamin c is good for the skin. It has a very calming affect; almost a lightening and tightening.

Both products are easily found via a google search. This combination might very well surprise and give you the best results you've had to date. With my years and years of trial and error; this has been the best combination and given me the most pleasant results.

Good luck
Paul

I use Free and Clear shampoo:

I don't use conditioner after because it leaves a film on the hair that I think aggravates my skin. Instead, I pre-condition with a few drops of my Emu Oil before shampooing. It makes my hair silky soft.

I also love the sea kelp bioferment face wash from Skinactives. You have to mix in the little vial of decyl glucoside (the mild surfactant) they send with it.

http://www.skinactives.com/products/sea ... erment.htm

I find the sea kelp helps with flakes and others have reported it helps with seb derm.

Taking Pau D'arco also helps with my flakes/seb derm, but you may want to be sure and read about it and, if you try it, do so carefully. I only use it for two weeks at a time, which is enough to help quite a bit. The best form to take it in it a tincture (liquid extract). You can find that at a health food store or online, I'm sure.

I think taking oregano oil also helps seb derm, as does garlic (if garlic is not a flare for you).

Also, using a drop of plain glycerin two or three times a week on my WET skin after washing really does help with dryness a lot. Just one drop on your wet skin is plenty. You don't want to overdo it. Glycerin needs water to work, so be sure your face is wet. Then, I apply my Emu Oil over top.

One more thing. When I wash, I'm very gentle, but I wash thoroughly. I soak a washcloth with tepid water (not cold - just tepid) and hold it to my skin for a minute or so in order to open up the pores and cleanse more thoroughly. Sometimes I very gently wipe the top of the skin in a circular motion. This also exfoliates in a non-abrasive way. This method of soaking the skin keeps breakouts at bay surprisingly well.

Cheers!
