This may work for you...We hope!

My handsome husband suddenly developed red spots near the hairline of his left sideburn. The red spots increased in number and soon became a rash, spreading to the upper hairline then to the other sideburn. A visit to the general practitioner resulted in a diagnosis of rosacea and a prescription for Metrocream. After paying for this bogus cream that doesn’t work, the red spots seemed to have gotten worse after the application. My husband discontinued using the Metrocream immediately but had some modest improvements on the spots by washing the area several times a day, probably from drying out the skin. Then came the miracle!

Our son happened to have acne and was on a prescribed cream (gel) from our G.P. that many of his friends also used for the most unresponsive acne. I tried the cream and was amazed it cleared up several pimples and a small ringworm for me. To make a long story less long, my husband tried the cream on a small area of his rosacea and it CLEARED UP in a couple of days. We couldn’t believe it, but this very strong acne cream cleared up the rosacea spots and have kept his skin clear ever since. The medication is so strong, he doesn’t need to use the medicated cream unless the skin begins to redden or if a couple of spots erupt that clears up in a day. The name of the cream (gel) that worked and worked quickly is:

Benzamycin Topical Gel (erythromycin-benzyol peroxide gel)

It is available only by prescription, and it is expensive but we always have a jar in the refrigerator. Our G.P. prescribed the gel, and we use the Benzamycin to the bottom of the jar because it is so expensive. We discovered that it is just as effective to the end of the jar. My husband’s skin is clear and he is very, very pleased that I persuaded him to try this cream. I hope this works for you. Nothing else works as well.
Good Luck!

Hi Jackifuller1.
I've done a quick google on Benzamycin (erythromycin 3%-benzoyl peroxide 5% topical gel)

Benzamycin is a combination of two active ingredients, benzoyl peroxide and erythromycin, which has proven effective in stopping acne-causing bacteria and reducing acne infection. Erythromycin is an antibiotic produced from a strain of Saccharopolyspora erythraea, whereas benzoyl peroxide is an antibacterial and keratolytic agent (causes the break down of keratin).

I would think that the antibiotic Erythromycin would be good at eliminating the red spots. I'm glad it's working for your family but would definitely check with your Doctor about continued usage as the potential side effects don't sound too great:

Adverse reactions reported occasionally or associated with the use of Benzamycin Topical Gel include the following:
Dryness
Urticarial reaction (hives, itching)
Peeling
Burning sensation
Inflammation of the face, eyes, and nose
Skin discoloration
Oiliness
Tenderness of the skin

Here's the Sanofis Aventis website where you can download an informative pdf on Benzamycin.

Re: Don't give up! Try the Benzamycin gel!

Hey, Lisa and friends reading this:

Sorry I've been gone so long. My body's weakness is my spine and I am mentally preparing myself for another lumbar surgery so I've been somewhat preoccupied.

The benzamycin gel is strong but my husband uses it only when he has an outbreak of spots or red rash, which is not very often these days. It seems as if once an area has been treated with the gel, the rosacea doesn't return to the treated area. Since it is used only when and where he has a rosacea eruption, there doesn't seem to be any of the side effects you mentioned. They are possible, of course, but since Metrogel and other topicals failed to work and were a waste of money (yes, he tried all the aforementioned treatments), I would say give the benzamycin a chance. Every treatment has some side effect, even if it is doing nothing at all. Be sure to keep the jar in the refrigerator; it will extend the efficacy of the oxidizing agent. The gel is also available in individual, metered little packets but may be more expensive this way but may last longer if kept in plastic bags.

I would really like to know if anyone else has tried this and what the results might be. I think once the skin has been treated with the gel, the causative agent for rosacea won't quickly reinfect the affected area. Hang on to the gel once the rosacea has cleared up. Usually it takes only a small reapplication if the spots return and besides, this gel is also fantastic for acne outbreaks. (A commercial for Rosacea websites is playing on the t.v. right now as I'm writing this. How weird is that?)

I really hate to see and know there are so many people fighting to control rosacea. Please let me know if anyone else has tried the benzamycin gel. I really hope this gel will eliminate all . I hope it will work for everyone who tries it.
