Hi, Cat,
I'm sorry to hear of your sitution, but glad that if you have to go through it you have found this site. More than 20 years ago when my rosacea first surfaced it was more than embarrassing, distressing, painful, and most of all was the not knowing what was wrong. Today there is much more knowledge available, although many dermatologists vary on their opinion of rosacea.
Keep trying out more dermatologists until you find one who isn't just willing to throw medications at you experimentally, or blame you when his/her prescribed treatments don't work. You will find one who knows what to do. Keep looking.
If you do have rosacea, you do need a diagnosis. Treatments for skin conditions vary, and many are not good for rosacea sufferers. Antibiotics or antifungals are usually the initial step in controlling the onset symptoms, followed by further internal treatments, antibiotics or Metronidazol, and topical treatments, such as Metrogel.
Keep looking through this site and check back often, there are many here who will be replying with tips, experiences, and a willing ear.
You are far from alone with what you are going through. Although we may not be able to offer you a solution, we can offer help, support, and the knowledge that you are in company here who understand what you are feeling.
Keep in touch, Cat.

Hi Cat.
So sorry to hear about your experience. Ken is right you need to find a Dermatologist or even just a good general practitioner who is willing to listen and work with you.

Here in the UK I go to a surgery with several Doctors. Sometimes the one I like might not be available and I end up with some other Doctor who is totally unhelpful and hasn't got a clue. I'm thinking in particular of the day I came in to collect my prescription having just seen the Derm and she said: "I'm afraid if this doesn't work we won't have anything else to offer you." I was pretty shocked by 'her declaration' and just laughed at her saying, "What do you mean, I haven't even tried oral antibiotics or IPL yet, aren't your comments a bit premature and I still haven't seen the Derms' report". She immediately shut her mouth and mumbled an "oh yes, the report hasn't arrived yet". I was pretty incensed at thinking that had I not been as informed and not seen my previous GP I would have felt really despondent.

But you know at the end of the day Doctors and Derms are just humans and like all humans they make mistakes so just keep looking until you find someone you are happy with.

In the meantime let us know what your skin routine is as this can also help in alleviating your condition.
Kind regards.

Hi Cat

I am sorry to hear about your situation. I felt exactly the same a month ago. I found a way to control my rosacea. My rosacea is nearly gone and my facial skin tone is almost back to normal and I flush less. I should mention that the diet did not stop my blushing. But blushing is cardio vascular disorder and only a surgery can fix that. I only go red when I blush otherwise my face is white and my facial skin looks healthy. The cure: I went on a diet which was formulated by a fellow rosacean(Brady Barrows). Brady has written a book on the rosacea diet which challenges the orthodox school of thought on what causes rosacea and explains how western diet is acting as a catalyst for rosacea. His book is very good as it gives absolutely everything one need to know to successfully control rosacea. The diet itself is very strict and will require huge sacrifice and change in your current diet. It is a 4 week diet(4 weeks is the minimum amount of time it takes for your metabolism to change) but you should see the change in your rosacea within two weeks. I personally saw some improvement in my rosacea in the first week. The diet basically involves me cut out sugar completely out of my diet and cut back dramatically on carbohydrates(alcohol is carbohydrate as well). According to Brady Sugar and Carbahydrates act as main triggers and exacerbates your rosacea. I can vouch for the diet and I strongly suggest you try it. The book itself is not expensive and will help you cope with this awful condition.

Good luck.
