3D imaging of skin and measurement of skin damage by David Pascoe on Sat Oct 17, 2009 11:26 am
Apparently this device can measure melanin and hemoglobin in the skin, and this could help monitor conditions like rosacea. I guess if there is flushing involved, and in Ireland there are plenty of red flushed faces, then this could be interesting.

3D imaging of skin and measurement of skin damage: This imaging device which can be used in cosmetic medicine provides a 3D computer-generated image of a patient’s skin with accompanying data analysis. These images are analysed using specialised software to accurately measure a range of parameters such as skin roughness, wrinkle depth and length and size and depth of abrasions prior to any potential surgery. In addition, the device can also map the amount of melanin and haemoglobin in the skin which could be used to quantify skin d...

Green tea is a good friend. by Auburn on Tue Oct 27, 2009 4:44 pm
Last year I stopped drinking green tea in place of water (about 2 liters per day) because I just couldn't stand it anymore. I had been drinking it for years because of its health benefits but all the brands I tried would upset my stomach. Because of this, and since I just can't make myself drink plenty of plain water once the weather starts cooling down, last winter I wasn't hydrating enough and, perhaps not coincidentally, I started having skin problems. Very dry body skin, first, and then a bout of seb derm and increased flushing.

Sometime in the spring I learned about Long Jin (Dragon Well), a very special green tea that tops the Ten Great Chinese Teas list. It makes a beautiful bright green infusion with a lovely floral scent and doesn't upset my stomach. However, this tea is awfully expensive...

Mineral make-up, a new kind of foundation. by David Pascoe on Mon Nov 09, 2009 8:17 am

Mineral make-up: a simply great idea

Mineral make-up, a new kind of foundation, is changing the face of the nation, says Emma Hill.

There's rather a buzz around foundation at the moment. Sales soared earlier this year by 15 per cent according to L'Oréal, and a new kind is causing a bit of a stir – mineral foundation.

Unlike conventional, liquid foundation, mineral make-up is a powder, made from finely ground minerals. The way it's put on is also different. You do it with a brush using a circular, buffing motion, a bit like polishing a table, and it has its advantages.

My rosacea symptoms and what has worked for me and what hasn't. by Auburn on Thu Oct 01, 2009 5:43 pm
ROSACEA SUBTYPE & SEVERITY: I Erythematotelangiectatic, mild. In my early twenties, a family friend (cosmetologist), looked at my skin and said "I think you have mild rosacea." Emotions and exercise have always caused flushing which, in my 20s and 30s, would quickly subside, in a matter of minutes, really. During the past decade my complexion became ruddier and the flushing would take much longer to subside. Now, in my early 50s, hormonal changes seem to be affecting my skin.

MAIN SYMPTOMS & AREAS AFFECTED: diffuse pinkness, mainly on cheeks and chin, flushing (plus an episode of ocular rosacea back in April, though not sure - the ophthalmologist diagnosed dry eye; however, the ocular symptoms resolved within days with no medication).

SKIN TYPE: used to be quite oily in the T-zone. However, for a couple of years now, the oiliness has almost completely disappeared.

CO-EXISTING CONDITIONS: sporadic bouts of seb derm on scalp/face with minimal peeling on face; an episode...

New potential help for rosacea - CPAP? by oregano on Sat Nov 28, 2009 3:17 am
Just curious if anyone else has had the same results with CPAP therapy. My rosacea, which I have had since a teenager -- has improved significantly since beginning CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) treatment for upper airway resistance syndrome. It is still early too tell for sure, but just checking to see if anyone has had similar results.
