Starting Out

Permanent Linkby Seren on Tue Jul 12, 2011 12:47 pm

Ok....so it's July 2011 and I am properly starting my quest to reduce the appearance of my (what I am sure will be diagnosed as) Rosacea type ii.

This is a kind of Blog/Diary and if anyone happens across it then I would be grateful for any comments/input as always.

Firstly I am going to see a dermatologist....probably nearer the end of the month.

In the interim I am doing the following........

Cutting out Alcohol, Refined Sugar, Wheat, Gluten, Dairy and Soya. It is tough but going well so far.

Drinking more water.
Eating much more veg.
Eating fruit but being careful not to eat too much citrus fruit.

I have gone back to using the ZenMed cleansing cream as it feels nice on my skin then followed by Simple Replenishing rich moisturiser.

I have been reading about Oil Pulling and the Oil Cleanse Method and may well give them a go if I can get my hands on some cold pressed oils without too much hassle. Seems most likely they will have to be sourced over the internet.

After having a week off work to spend time on expedition I was feeling really good and my skin had started to look much better. Feeling really positive now so I hope that feeling stays :)

After doing my first OCM last night (which was nice) my skin felt lovely.

Used a mix of 1 tablespoon cold pressed Castor Oil and 9 tablespoon of extra virgin Olive Oil and put in a brand new pump container. Massaged into skin for 5 mins and then gently wiped off with a hot face cloth. Skin went red with the heat, but cooled down quickly.

This morning I just moisturised and was tempted to use just a little foundation.

Result!

One of the girls in work commented that my skin was looking much better which made me feel good.

So now it's Sept 2011 and I have been officailly diagnosed today with papulopustular rosacea. I will be prescribed Tetralysal 300 and Finacea gel. The Tetralysal is initially for 2 months and I need to go back to the consultant in 6 weeks for him to assess.

Fingers crossed.

Day 5 on the meds. P&P's appear to be reducing in numbers. Only 2-3 in the last 5 days. Skin feels smooth but then dries out quite a bit. Slight tingling after about 3 mins after putting on the Finacea but it goes away quickly. Best results are over night. Apply finacea and then go to bed. Wake up and although skin is slightly dry, the redness is starting to reduce slightly. During day, still very red. Finacea goes on nicely but because it dries my skin out I need to moisturise to go to work. This makes my skin quite red again :-(. However, apart from the few bumps and the left over scabs from previous P&P's the skin is very smooth. It feels nice, it just doesn't look so great. but, this is only day 5 and I am quite hopeful that after 6-8 weeks I will see a bit less red.
Cutting out the alcohol seems to have worked well.
Perhaps finding a way to moisturise my skin without it flaring up would be good. The finacea seems to work quite well....it is when I have to use the moisturiser that I get much more redness. coconut oil perhaps?

Just another thought......if my skin seems to be better after sleep.....could this perhaps be linked to the darkness or lack of stress? Hmmmmm

Hi Seren,
I noticed my skin looks worse when I'm tired, or didn't sleep well. I'm sure our level of "fatigue" has an impact on it.
Take care
