Mineral make-up: a simply great idea

Mineral make-up, a new kind of foundation, is changing the face of the nation, says Emma Hill.

There's rather a buzz around foundation at the moment. Sales soared earlier this year by 15 per cent according to L'Oréal, and a new kind is causing a bit of a stir – mineral foundation.

Unlike conventional, liquid foundation, mineral make-up is a powder, made from finely ground minerals. The way it's put on is also different. You do it with a brush using a circular, buffing motion, a bit like polishing a table, and it has its advantages.

Blog Subject:  maybe one day a side profession

I went to a friend's wedding on the weekend. It was just to have a look and see her get married. I thought I'd take a few shots as a gift.

I was shocked to see the official photographer had a film camera, small lens and flash and a manual wind on mechanism.

so anyway I took some shots, out in the bright sun as it was outdoors at 11:30AM. I thought the shots were sweet and bride and her mother are stoked - the bride even asked herself why didn't she just ask me.

At this stage I'm not ready to go professional, but who knows it might be an option one day as a side job.

Blog Subject:  awesome morning - swans everywhere

Just back from a bike ride, so am feeling the endorphins or whatever it is that make you feel great after exercise.

Stopped down at the Swan River and noticed that I could see around 40 black swans sitting in the shallows. I can remember not that long ago that you never saw a black swan on the Swan River. So great to see them return in good numbers.

These shots aren't from today, but were taken in the same area, the South Perth foreshore.

Blog Subject:  The honesty of kids

Number one son was sitting on my lap on the weekend.

He looked up at me and sad `Dad, what is that red dot thing on your nose ?'

As much as I didn't really want to explain it to a 3 year old, I did manage to say that it was just a pimple.

Hopefully I did it calmly enough to not make him think it was, like, you know an issue for me (;)
