Last year I stopped drinking green tea in place of water (about 2 liters per day) because I just couldn't stand it anymore. I had been drinking it for years because of its health benefits but all the brands I tried would upset my stomach. Because of this, and since I just can't make myself drink plenty of plain water once the weather starts cooling down, last winter I wasn't hydrating enough and, perhaps not coincidentally, I started having skin problems. Very dry body skin, first, and then a bout of seb derm and increased flushing.

Sometime in the spring I learned about Long Jin (Dragon Well), a very special green tea that tops the Ten Great Chinese Teas list. It makes a beautiful bright green infusion with a lovely floral scent and doesn't upset my stomach. However, this tea is awfully expensive to be used for hydrating purposes :-(.

Luckily, last week I found a store that carries the wonderful Ahmad Teas of London brand :). I picked up a box of loose green tea and have been brewing it daily. It doesn't upset my stomach at all so I'm back to drinking two liters per day (I'd been barely drinking water in the past few weeks and my skin had already started to show obvious signs of dehydration).

Drinking green tea, in place of water, throughout the day, is having an amazing hydrating and soothing effect on my whole body.

Just a week ago my shins were looking really flaky, no matter how often I moisturized. This always starts to happen this time of year. This week my shins look fine without moisturizing.

My eyes feel much better, no dry eye symptoms.

Since mid summer flushing has been infrequent, rather mild and short lived but, now that the cold weather has arrived, I'd flush a bit if sitting too close to the fireplace or if I forget to keep my head back, when cooking on the stove. Still, no flushes this week, even though the house is rather warm/dry and I've been quite busy in the kitchen.

My ankles are back to normal now (green tea has diuretic properties). Seems I'd been retaining a bit of water for some reason.

Green tea is a good friend. :)
