Clinique Redness Solutions: user reviews

Claiming to measurably reduce redness, a new range of products for problem red skin called Clinique Redness Solutions has recently been launched. This range is another attempt by Clinique to enter the rosacea treatment market.

The range consists of ;

clinique-redness

  • Redness Solutions Urgent Relief Cream is said “rushes soothing relief to upset skin. Quickly calms flare-ups of visible redness, irritation.”
  • Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base SPF 15 is claimed “Protects skin from the UVA/UVB exposure that can aggravate skins with Rosacea or reactive redness. Does it without chemical sunscreens.”
  • Redness Solutions Daily Relief Cream is said to “instantly calm skins with Rosacea. Relieves visible redness, blotchiness. Soothes to cool discomfort. Over time, helps improve skin’s comfort, lessens the look of broken capillaries.”
  • Redness Solutions Soothing Cleanser is said to “melt away makeup and impurities. Helps calm redness, irritation while preserving skin’s moisture balance. Smooth with mild exfoliation. Leaves skin clean, comforted.”

Update: The Urgent Relief Cream contains hydrocortisone 0.5%. Perhaps some care should be used with the Urgent Relief Cream as we know that over the counter steroids can cause rosacea itself.

Paul H says:

I have been using the Clinique daily redness relief cream and it is really good. I have been unable to tolerate ANYTHING - but this seems to be ok. The “urgent relief cream” is OK also, but it is mainly for “itching,” and doesn’t work as well as the daily redness relief cream, which is very soothing.

bellemichelle says:

The urgent relief cream is NOT a rosacea product, but for reactive redness. It’s just hydrocortizone actually, and hydrocortizone doesn’t do anything for rosacea. Save your money on that one, especially at $30!

The daily relief cream is identical to the CX relief cream, just less expensive. I like it though, it’s a nice mild moisturizer. Don’t believe the claims about it “over time reducing rosacea flare-ups”, I can’t believe how much companies get away with in their marketing!

They have a sunscreen and cleanser too. The sunscreen is too oily for my skin, but it’s gentle at least, I didn’t react to it. The cleanser is my favorite product, it’s mild and non-reactive and it doesn’t dry your skin out.

mecheleshnm says:

Hi, I’ve been using Clinique’s Redness Relief for a week so far. Results are good, not great. On the plus side, it’s the only product I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a lot!) that gives me immediate relief. The relief though only lasts a few hours. I’m going to keep using it
because and relief is welcome– and it costs $40! I’ll check back in a month and let you know how it’s going.

Katgo says:

I swung by the clinique counter for something else right before christmas and saw this line…of course I had to try it! I bought the cleanser ($25), the moisturizer ($65), i refused to buy the calming stuff since it was full of hydrocortisone. Basically, it’s a total waste of money. The cleanser was nice, but not worth that kind of cash, and the cream is meant for all the clinique skintypes(1,2,3,4) therefore isn’t very moisurizing.

I used it for three days and called it quits. My skin is combination and this stuff was making it very dry/dehyrated, which in turn lead to my face becoming more red! The women at the clinique counter also said they had a training on this product and were told to tell clients not even to use other clinique products in combination with this stuff or it would effect results, so who knows if they want you to even take your meds with these products.

Lucky for me, the clinique counter took all these products back, so you can always try it pretty risk free. If you do buy this product, I hope you have better results

so one woman says it’s a steroid…?

There seems to be some confusion as to whether the Redness Solutions Urgent Relief Cream does indeed contain a steroid or not. If someone knows for sure then please post here and give us an answer.

I tried the daily relief cream. It didn’t take long before my face was much redder, and in places it hadn’t been red before. It resolved very quickly after I washed it off.

Luckily, I hadn’t bought the product ($39) - if you go to Nordstrom’s, they can almost always give you a sample to try in a tiny container they stock for the purpose throughout their cosmetics counters. I always try samples at home on clean skin before investing. After my experience, I recommend anyone with rosacea try it out before buying this product.

The Urgent Relief Cream does indeed contain hydrocortisone 0.5%. For the full list of ingredients for all 4 products, see

Well, I would love to have at least the opportunity to try this range. I am in the UK and went along to the Clinique counter at a local department store, primarily to see if I could get a few foundation samples to try at home, (I find it difficult to get the colour right to work with a red face with 2 big white circles, commonly known as the eye sockets LOL!), and I was refused samples of anything.

I explained my situation and the hypersensitivity and colour/condition of my rosacea skin and I don’t strip my make-up off in public, anywhere. (I find being looked at as though I have two heads emotionally distressing!).

The sales assistant showed me the anti-redness range, giving me the whole sales pitch talk about how Clinique knows exactly how to care for my condition and wanted me to sit down and give 20 mins. of my time to having the range applied with make-up etc. As the heat and lighting in the store was already flaring me up I had to decline her ‘kind’ offer. It takes me around 45mins. from cleansing to makeup in the morning as I leave time in between for ‘air drying’ before moisturising and then another break before make-up as constant handling of my skin will flare it up.

I explained all this to no avail, it was more or less ‘you do it our way, or not at all’. I won’t fork out a lot of money for products I can’t try at home as I got badly burnt doing this in the past buying a load from the Anene anti-redness range which worsned my rosacea and all ended up in the bin. I left empty handed feelling a bit disgusted and distressed. To me Clinique had no understanding of my condition at all.

I’ll stick with what I am using, Liz Earle’ Naturally Active Skincare, which I started using around 4 months ago more or less around the same time as starting anti biotic treatment for P&P’s. It doesn’t burn or sting me, like many products do, doesn’t worsen my redness, (in fact I think it is slowly starting to come down a decibel or two), and at least I am not tight, dry and flakey anymore.

For make-up I’ll stick with Lancome, (though expensive), which again doesn’t irritate me, who are more than happy to give me as many different colour samples as I want, to play with at home in my own time.

I have become I bit sceptical about all these lotions and potions promosing to reduce rosacea redness, I think getting to the point where your skin at least feels nourished and comfortable on you again is probably more important.

As a Clinique consultant, I just want to say that I have personally not used the Redness Relief products, but I do know they work wonderfully on some people. We want people to be happy with their results and therefore guarantee all our products. It’s true that if you have persistent redness (ex. Rosacea), using the Soothing Cleanser and Daily Relief Cream daily instead of the 3-Step is what we tell people to do. Using the Daily Protctive Base is an option, but is NOT obviously mandatory for using this system. As is the Emergency Relief Cream, which is only for reactive redness or spot flare-ups and is not to be used continuously. I don’t want people to get the wrong idea about these products and think that we’re “giving our sales pitch”. We just know that if you do have persistent redness, it’s ideal to use the main 2 products together to get any results. If you only use say, the cleanser and nothing else, of course the results most likely won’t be positive. The products (whether it be just the Emergency Relief cream once in a while after using your regular 3-step regime or the Red. Sol. cleanser and Daily Relief Cream twice daily) are designed to be used together. Everyone has different skin and are going to have different reactions so this is not going to work for some people. But, don’t act like Clinique is only “marketing” because the products have done incredible things for some people. Don’t forget that some people will have allergies or reactions to just about anything out there regardless of being 100% fragrance free and non-acnegenic. Seriously, most Clinique employees are just trying to help. Thanks for listening.

Hello,
Has anybody tried ‘Dr Brandt Laser in a bottle Laser Relief’? It’s rather expensive and i want to know if anybody has had good result.

#8 Clive on 02.14.08 at 9:12 am

I’ve been using some of the Clinique Redness Solution products for about 2 months now…

I really like the cleanser. It’s an absolute godsend. Use it every morning in the shower and every night before I go to bed. Very soothing. Will definitely continue to use this.

As for the moisturiser…urgh…I can’t say it’s improved anything. Been using the Daily Relief Cream for about 2 months now. I’ve not purchased the Urgent Relief Cream but I’ve tried a few samples. Can’t say it’s helped anything.

Will be taking a trip back to see the Clinique peeps soon to see what they can recommend.

#9 Clive on 02.16.08 at 11:13 pm

…They recommend I keep using it!

Wooop!

Hello,
Today I purchased the Daily Relief Cream, and I am not having the best result. I know it may take some time for my skin to adapt, but my face is really red now and looks worse than it did. I have been using the redness solutions cleanser and love it, but the relief cream is a bit harsh for me.
For anyone looking for a clinique product that gets rid of that horrible tightness we experience, I recommend moisture on-call. I have used it for several years and it’s the greatest product. I also recommend the Clinique supermoisture makeup. If you purchase the makeup I would go ahead and spend the $28 extra to get the brush to apply it..using the brush makes the makeup last longer.

I must pop in and say that the Urgent Relief Cream is to be used for any kind of occasional redness. For example: wind chapped skin, redness from excessive nose blowing from a cold, mosquito bites, hives. If you have Rosacea or persistant redness, the program that would best suit you would be the Soothing Cleanser, Daily Relief Cream, and Daily Protective Base. Please understand that these creams are for two different kinds of redness. Thanks for listening.

Hi everybody,

I’ve been using the daily relief cream for a while now (it’s a tester and I’ve been using it for prox three month’s two times a day) and it works great on my rosacea skin.. I am going to buy the cleanser and the cream again tomorrow. It didn’t work imediately and indeed at first it seemed the rosacea got worse, but after a week or two the redness and the bumps disappeared into nowhere! (I must say I’m in the first stadium, so my rosacea isn’t as bad as with some people). But to my opinion, if you have paid that amount, you can at least try it a bit longer than say one day. Give it a chance, you can always throw it away in the end.

thx

#14 AJ on 04.04.08 at 1:46 am

I like the moisturuzer and the cleaner, but the daily tinted cream is oily and smells like pickles. By the end of the day my face looks like an oil slick, and my mineral foundation is gone. And I do not have oily skin. I like prosacea alot, but it does not wear well under makeup as it is a gel (I guess). I wish I could find a light, gentle but effective, sulfer based day cream!

Hi, i went to town on the hunt for a new foundation to mask my rosacea. I found the Clinique counter in Boots Store and that’s when i discovered their Redness Solutions products. Cautious, when trying new skin products, as my skin is sooooo sensitive, almost everything upsets it, i asked about makeup suitable for rosacea and the Clinque sales person showed me the Redness Solutions range. After reading the ingredients, i thought i would take a chance on the Cleanser. I just wanted to take the one product to see how my skin reacted to it, so i purchased the cleanser. And i am glad it did, because my skin feels lovely after using this cleanser on my face…so soft and fresh and calming. Immediately, I noticed the dark ruddy redness improved to a faint pink blush (which is quite nice). And i could even see some small patches of my natural skin tone which i haven’t seen for a long lont time! BUT.. i have used this product only three times as i just bought it yesterday, so not sure how things will develop, for the better or worse. Hopefully, for the BETTER! I can’t comment on the other three Redness Solution products yet. But i am still hunting for a good moisturizer and higher spf than the ones i am currently using as they are far too expensive to use longterm.
I was pleasantly surprised that the Redness Solutions Cleanser was not as expensive as i expected. I have always paid ridiculous prices for products for my rosacea skin. Surely these things are overpriced!
Oh and you lose nothing in giving CLinque products a try because they say if you don’t like what you buy then you can return them for a full refund!
Thank you CLinique. xx

I have used this Clinique stuff (Cleanser, Daily Relief Cream and the SPF 15 Protective Base) for about 4 weeks now and must that it seems to be helping. My redness has been reduced by about 50%. One thing to note is that at first it did make my redness a little worse and i actually only use the cleanser once a day instead of twice and that seems to be working better. I am still using my Metrocream and Finacea as well. Over all I am pretty pleased with this Clinique product.

#17 Angel on 05.01.08 at 5:20 pm

Does the cleanser and the daily relief cream clog pores? And is it ok to use them if I don’t have rosacea skin but just red and itchy from this allergy season because I’m allergic to trees, ragweed, grass, and dust and I am only 23 years old. My skin got rashes and itch by the way started last Friday….I also started using cetaphil gentle cleanser and the moisturizing lotion last week but it seem to be making my skin worst

#18 Erik on 05.04.08 at 5:08 am

The cetaphil cleanser makes my skin worse too. Both products are not good if u have red skin, have u tried Aveeno Ultra calming products?

#19 angel on 05.04.08 at 12:23 pm

I did try the aveeno ultra calming line after few days of using them I returned them because it make my condition worst. I went to Macy today and bought the soothing cleanser and the daily relief cream and it hasn’t make my condition worst yet. Hopefullly it won’t.

I was diagnosed with rosacea 4 years ago and have tried several cleansers and OTC creams as well as two different prescribed topical treatments. I’ve been using the Clinique Daily Protective Base and the Relief Cream for about 6 weeks and I like them both. My face looks so much better that I haven’t even finished my lastest tube of prescribed Finacea. Several people that know I have this condition have commented on how good my skin looks. This line definitely works better for me than the Eucerin line which didn’t change my condition at all. I also have oily skin. My regimen is this: cleanse, apply the daily relief cream, the protective base, wait several minutes before applying a tiny bit of shine mattifier to my forehead and nose, then apply mineral makeup powder. I feel like I’m wearing nothing at all on my face. I recommend the Clinique line… it’s worth a try.

#21 susie on 05.13.08 at 11:47 pm

I have gradually become more acne-prone around the chin, and all together redder around the T-zone. Have been using Cetaphil for Oily Skin, which has a tiny bit of sudsifying - sodium laureth sulphide - and it’s great! As for Clinique’s anti-redness products, the daily moisturizer with sun-protection is quite fab, since its green base hides the red so nicely, thereby cutting down on foundation use. I was only allowed a small sample since all the stores in my city are on back-order,
but I loved each day it was used - smooth skin, noticably less red, plus sun-protection - yay!
